Worried Media Player not playing over network

Hi , I have had my X51v for about 2 weeks now. Love it! Only one problem so far. Let me explain first. I have many mp3s on my desktop PC, which runs XP and connects to my Axim X51v via a linksys wireless router. I can browse all shared files on my PC with my axim using resco file explorer as well as use the internet wirelessly . I was also able to play the mp3s located on my desktop wirelessly on my axim . Well, I no longer can for some reason . Whenever I click on an mp3 it launches mobile media player and gives me an error msg "The parameter is incorrect" . If I transfer the mp3 to my axim it works flawlessly , but I don't want all those mp3 on my axim . I want to play them across the network like before .
Anyone else have this problem? Any clues?
Btw, this site is AWESOME guys!

Did you do anything special to set up file sharing? I have file sharing on my network working flawlessly but the axim can no longer see my computer. What can i do?

Just make sure file sharing is enabled on your PC and share the folders\files you'd like. Then on your Axim, use the "resco" file explore (a trial verson comes on the cd with your axim) to browse to and select "My Network" then tap-n-hold and select "Map drive..." Your axim will then search for your networked computers. When you find the share you want, map to it.
I hope this helps.
Oh, be sure your wireless is turned on.

I've been trying that for a while but i still can't get it to work. It worked perfectly a week ago. Hm. I tried a hard-reset but still no change.

yeah, i had problem with WMP10 especially with streaming videos. you can try mms://iport/* to play video with windows media encoder. I just switch to TCPMP instead, and have it associate with http and mms, no more problems.

Nuropa, could you please explain in a little more detail your fix mms://iport/* ? What change is it I'd need to make, is this a setting in Media Player?

Or alternatively, can someone recommend a good media player to uses, other that MP10, that would solve this issue?

Thanks!

make sure your file associations have not changed open wmp and see if you see the shared folder in open files menu then select the mp3 from within wmp and see if it works

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, that is not the issue.
I can see the files on the Axim when looking at network drive.
They are still associated with the Media Player program.
But then when I go to open them I get the error message as does
Buehler:

Problem fixed with free program

Well, it sure is rediculous that we need to spend our time and effort fixing bugs that Microsoft and/or Dell should have worked out before taking our money!

But the good news is that a free program fixed my inability to play Windows Media files over my network. Check it out - works great!

I gave up on trying mp10. I've been using GSplayer for my mp3s which is way cool and real easy to use with lots of functions. You may want to check it out here:

I also have tcpmp for playing video files or streaming from internet.
You are right about Microsoft and Dell though, I'm very dissappointed with them also!
cheers!

Just found this thread

Hi, I just found this site trying to search for a solution to the problem documented here.

I have the same exact problem with an x51v - the weird thing is it didnt happen before my rom upgrade, I was using version A01. Previously I was using bizDev netuse to map drives, and they would play fine (albeit slight ocassional skipping). I had previously used this method with an x50 with success.

After I upgraded to A06, then I get this exact problem, it gives the "parameter is incorrect message", but the troubling thing is you can still view all the mp3 id3 tag info from within media player. (So I know it is opening the file okay). Jpg's also seem to fail as well as wmv (over the network), however, I can open and PLAY .wav files of equivalent size with no problems.

If I copy the file locally to a CF card, everything works fine (for any given file type). Media player in all its wisdom doesnt allow me to open a network share directly, OR see the /network folder (created by netuse).

I even tried downgrading to version A04, but no luck. Unfortunately, I could not find a rom image for version A01. (Upgraded to fix the errors/mystery power-on issue).

I suspect this is a windows mobile/media player 10 recent update issue...the inconsistent behavior between .wav files and .mp3 almost smells of drm...
