Question Axim x51v and WM 5.0

I,

I would like to buy my first pocketPC next week. Special on Dell Axim x51v are really good until january 2006. My fear : Windows mobile 5.0 (2005).

In a new pocket pc, it is really a bad operating system ?

Should I wait the release of Windows mobile 5.0 SE to acquire my pocket PC ?

Thank in advance for your answer.

Welcome to Aximsite.

There is nothing wrong with WM 5.0 other than couple of issues with BT stack and ActiveSync. Both should be fixed with new ROM updates.

I am also on the lookout to buy an x51v (moving to Pocket PC from Palm). Read all the x51 threads and you will have more information than you need.

WM5 has been very stable for me once I set up a fake server connection in order to disable ActiveSync's autosync feature (it's silly you can't change it without a server connection). I haven't experienced any problems since then in over a week and a half. Some programs won't work in WM5, but that's always the case with a new OS. But future programs may ONLY work on WM5, so it is a tradeoff. X51v is worth getting unless you already have an X50v running WM2003SE that you're happy with.

Wait it out if you have the will power to resist, I could't and thanks to aximsite I don't have any major problems w/ my X51vWM5.0 PPC. I have a lot of apps installed both WM5.0 certified compatible and some not.

X51V and WM5 are fine

... after I disabled the autorun of Activesync and run with Bluetooth on all the time (with no noticable battery drain affect, BTW). Run in this way, the platform and OS have been rock solid. I have not experienced a single one of the problems noted on this fine site since I tweaked by config in this way. And, this has been for several months - no problems.

It was a bit rocky at first, but finally the X51v is as stable as my prior platform - Palm T3.
