Bluetooth Wireless Connection
Hello All,
Did anyone get Bluetooth working with a phone device. I have the profile come back as Serial and Dialup-Networking. The device I have is an OGO from AT&T/Cingular which is always on Internet connection. Did anyone figure out a way to add the serial port that is created in to the network setup?
I remember in WM2003SE and using the different stack I used network access to get immediate access to the internet. It automatically created a profile under the network settings that I could select.
Looking for any help possible!

Short answer - go back to WM2003SE.
Long answer - WM5's BT stack, as provided by Microsoft, is seriously crippled. It's missing half the features the Broadcomm stack in WM2003SE had, and I don't know if it even allows you to do what you suggested there. If it's an 'always on' connection, you'd either need to set up a PAN or a serial port, as you suggested, but I don't know if the Serial Port functionality exists in the default BT stack anymore.

Well I tried the dialing functionality for the Cingular network *99# or something like that. But it is not working correctly!
If you have an idea how you got it working with T-Mobile I will be willing to try.

bluetooth dialup procedure
(please note that this is to the best of my memory and i may be leaving something out. hopefully this will point you in the right direction.)
ok, first let me say that i am using axim x50v running WM 5 and a motorola v330.
step 1. bluetooth "on" and discoverable "on", on my ppc. bluetooth is powered "on" on phone
step 2. on my phone, i selected bluetooth menu, assigned a connection name.
step 3. goto ppc>settings press "connections" tab at bottom. press "bluetooth" icon. check "bluetooth on" and "discoverable" checkboxes. then goto "devices" tab at bottom. this will open "partnership" tool. Press "New Partnership", but before you do, make sure your phone's bluetooth antenna is still powered on and that it is "discoverable" too. on my phone there is a "find me" menu that makes my phone discoverable for 60 seconds. if it is discoverable then the ppc should find your phone after you nit "new partnership" button.
step 4. after it finds your phone, press next menu, and it should give you another menu with a checkbox for "dialup services". its the only service available now, unfortunately. check the box and press finish.
step 5. goto ppc>settings menu and select "connections" icon. select "add new modem connection". then assign a name, select "bluetooth" from the pulldown menu and pess next. select you bluetooth partnership you created earlier. it should offer you a feild to enter that dialup number "*99#" or whatever it is. then hit "next". put in whatever username you have to etc (call provider).
step 6. launch pocket ie and try to go to a url. my ppc initaites a dial up request to my phone and uses the default connection i created.
**caveat**you may still have to set the "access" menu (at least on my phone) to automatic. at first i had to set it to "grant" and manually accept the dial out request. but eventually i somehow got that to stop.
it should work. i use tmobile's edge network which is actually not too bad. i have achieved ISDN speeds before, but usually right aroung 56kbits if not faster. its good enough to stream radio stations and do email, light surfing, IMing and whatnot. i tried skype with it, but that was pretty painful.
anyway, hope this helps.

Hey smallfry
everything is true for me up to step 5.
I have a X50V with WM5 using NOKIA 6680. on step 5, when I choose the partnersheep I made before and press next the machine is stuck for ever...(I have the X50V for 4 months now and I upgraded it 5 days ago. I used the soft reset on those 5 days more time then in the entire 4 months...)

uri,
i have had many probs like that too, since i upgraded to wm5. very unstable.
as far as your connection goes, i guess i wul make sure you phone is still actively partnered, while asigning the connection partnership seting. i am not sure how nokia phones work, but i know on my motorola, initially, i had to grant access to the ppc twice. once when asigning the initial partnership, and again when dialing.
have you checked your phone while your ppc is hung? perhaps it is waiting for a grant request to be fulfilled?
