WM5 Feature wishlist and solutions!
Perhaps we can help eachother: Just list the things you want your WM5 device to do, or list a solution for a wish from another poster. Either a WM5 setting/tweak, or a program that performs the function. please note: I am not talking about bug reports, just actual functional improvements.
Some tips:
-Be short and descriptive
-Think of users searching for the same thing:
-Make a good subject title since people see this in their search result
-Use a few synonyms for the problem in your post so they're more likely to find this topic.
-Make one wish per post.
-Try to make the key points of your wish clear in a short first paragraph. People tune out quickly.
-Give the posts exclamation mark Post Icon ( :exc: ) if you have a solution, and a question mark Post Icon if you have a wish!
-If you're answering something, please use thesame topic title!
I'll start!

Quick start/stop of networking (DUN) from Today/taskbar
In PPC2003, you could click the connection icon, and click the name of the connection you want to fire up or close. In WM5, this functionality is gone, it doesn't allow me to click my bluetooth connection and connect.
Id be happy with just a little application that tries to fire up the default network since I have a fine one-click today launcher app that will run any pap in one click.

Favourites inside Start menu must go away!
WM5 keeps a list of all programs I've recently started and they are cluttering my start menu. I would love some option to take them out!
All I want in my main start menu are a few applications I explicitly select, the settings submenu and the 'rest of the programs' submenu!
I have no use for WM5 remembering any app I accidentally run, yes I am a minimalist.

Sound volume of alarms - you wont hear low or mute!
The problem is that if you set your system volume to mute or 'very silent', your reminders and alarms will be that volume too. If you intend to use your PDA for timekeeping you will hate this :(
Solutions?

OK so I found the solution myself already (wanted to give an example to start you guys off :) )
The solution I found was AlarmToday: http://www.pocketmax.net/alarmToday.htm
Which has amongst its features:
- Override system sound so no alarms go unheard, or one-click disable when you don't want to be disturbed.
- Interfaces directly with Outlook, Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion
Testing the shareware version.. so far Im impressed, main downside is that it isn't VGA-aware yet (but works fine with slightly rough icons).

Ummm okay I realise I said 'short' but you're taking that a bit too literally... try to channel the spirit of your signature or something, it'd be very helpful to for example mention which menu of which app you consider too 'non-xp-like', and how you would like to see it work without right-clicking..

Hmm sadly PocketZenPhone isn't shareware anymore, you can only download a really old version, or pay and get the new. It looks like a useful app though.

But it is only around $10 and the developer is very active and responsive :)
Just another choice.
My addition to the list...I wish MS would make POutlook more like Windows Outlook. Send/receive all accounts at once, rules, flags, etc. ProfiMail is about as close as you get, but it doesn't include SMS. WebIS Mail includes SMS, but they do not have a WM5 version yet. This really should be part of the OS and working!

I wish that WM5 would go back to using the RAM like it used to, saves us on program 'memory issues'
Another I would like to see has been mentioned already; the start menu 'remebered programs' thinger... I'm not senile... nor do I care what I've opened. It's a nusense (however thats spelt)

If you don't like persistent memory, you can solve the problem by sticking with WM2003 :) I would think if you have program memory issues (which I haven't run into), then the answer is MORE MEMORY!
Regarding the recently used apps, I use that feature. And at least two of the app launching programs have a way to save "favorite" apps...so someone must like this feature. How about a way to turn it on or off to keep us all happy?

Well I dunno, most applications don't require more than 30Mb I'd say. Of course using an application like mbutton or vbar (that CLOSES, not MINIMIZES applications) will fix most of your problems there.

Well I don't think microsoft is listening to this forum :) basically I mainly intended this topic as a "find tweaks for others" place.. so any tweak that would disable the recent apps would probably be very optional :)

Backlight Toggle Utility
Time to re-liven this one up. :)
I would love to have a very tiny utility, which only function is to toggle (turn on when its off, turn off when it's on) the backlight. I've tried backstep v 1.5 but that one only works for IPAQ's I think.

I'd like to see a much better MSN Messenger application built into the OS. Right now we dont even get Emotionicons! Microsoft should really step up in making this aspect better since it's one of my most used applications, (apart from POutlook...but i recently switched over to WebIS Mail)
