This is a wierd problem, and I have not found a solution by searching the forums. You will note in the images that the font size and layout of the power panel and brightness panel are not exactly original specification. Here are the details of my setup.
Dell Axim X50v, upgraded to WM5 via CD
VGA resolution via OZ_VGA.
Font sizes in VGA mode are set to 1.5 times seVGA
Looks like oz_vga isn't WM5 compatible to me. Maybe the developer doesn't have a WM5 device yet?

I have noticed that those panels are a bit strange myself. I am using a Japanese verson x51v, and after installing software in my new machine, only those 2 panels became unreadable (the Japanese characters became boxes). I am trying to find/make a fix, but no luck yet :(
That's the only problem I've found with the ozVGA hack, but I think it's worth it. And you can still change brightness and power settings, it just makes it a little harder to see.

I haven't even used any system-wide VGA hacks... just installing normal software messed up my Power & Brightness Panels. But it is my guess that the problems are related...
