Hey guys. In the xda-developers.com forums, people are happily hacking away at the HTC universal/himalaya WM5 phone's ROMS.

Sounds like this is something that could be useful for Dell's too. I've already tried the tool to decode the ROM and it seemed to work:

1/ Download the axim upgrade
2/ Unpack it
3/ Go to the unpacked dir
4/ Run the rom through their util.

It said it worked, but the messages were slightly garbled, plus I don't think I succeeded in mounting the .fat file (dont have linux here).

Anyone care to put some time in?

I've been tempted to do this several times but since we havent figured out how to flash the axim x5X series from SD card yett we have no backup method incase we brick the device.

Although I am tempted to make my own rom without home.exe and all other unessecary stuff and most of all a working BT stack in WM5!

Uhm... My Dad's friend managed to reflash my X51v from SD...
I killed it and he reflashed it... I'll have to ask him what he did, if the fact of the matter is that no-one has been sucessful around here ... I'll see what i can do


As for the ROM hacking, I've been using that Utility for a little while since it popped up... same problem, jibberish messages... plus I'm still slightly reluctant to completely kill the PDA, seeing as it is not even 1 month old lol

I'll keep my eye on this thread, and the linked one.
