I had the 2003 and got the free upgrade to 5.0. My Axim would crash; the battery power would last about 10 minutes (I almost bought another battery because I thought it was faulty). I finally called Dell and they said that 5.0 was having major issues and to restore the operating system to 2003. The tech guy made a mistake rolling mine back to 2003, so they had to send me out a new Axim to replace it (2003). It works so much better. I did like some of the features on 5.0.
Do you know if Microsoft is fixing the problem?

Well the problem is not a Microsoft problem. It is more of a Dell implementation problem. Dell is going to have to figure out how to make it work with the Axim. I think it will all work out in time but for now 2003 is working great so I am sticking with it. I depend to much on my Axim during the day to have to struggle with trying to get WM 5.0 to work. I know people with other devices running WM5 and they are not having problems. But they are not running them on Dell PDA's.
Best of luck to you..

If you don't mind, what exactly is that bug fix?

I tried so hard to like WM5. I did all the tweaks and kept telling myself it's working great. Then I installed Kasparov Chessmate and that's when I finally gave up. The game worked fine, but if I ever played it and then turned off the PDA, I couldn't get it back on without a soft reset! It didn't happen all the time, but enough to become very annoying. It got even worse. It seemed like every time I'd restart, it would run very slowly for several minutes and then start working ok.
There are just too many issues with WM5 and there are not enough advantages to keep it over WM2003. "Downgrading" (more like UPGRADING!) went very smoothly and now my X50 is happy once again. I miss the ability to store large DRM audiobooks on my SD card, but that's about it. I love regaining the memory management capabilities that WM2003 has.
There's no way I'll go back to WM5 until I'm assured it's totally stable and runs well.

It is completely frustrating. I have every problem mentioned in this thread. Man looks like I too will be downstalling. I tell you, reinstalling everything (ROM updates, WM5) all over again has become a gigantic annoyance.

The good news (for me at least) was that downgrading was a snap. You just run the program, sit back, and wait about 15 minutes. I kept ActiveSync 4.1 on my PC and reinstalling everything was just a matter of clicking the check boxes in the add/remove programs section.

Notes Tab
I just noticed that I am not able to add notes in the note tab on Contacts after going back to Mobile 2003. Are any of you having that problem and know of a fix for that?

WM5 doesn't work for me eithier but I can't even go back to 2003SE; when I try to use the Dell revert program I get "The update file can not be found. Reinstall the system update". When I try to reinstall WM5 it tells me it's already on there and will just bail out. Sheesh. What a pile of soft and smelly. At least I felt better being able to sign the petition going around (and offering to throw money in the pot for a lawsuit against Dell). I've bought a lot of Dell products. No more.

I shall be downgrading to 2003 when I get home. WM5 really annoyed be this moring, when I got to work, battery had dropped to 17% from 100% just 45mins earlier.
And a new problem appeared, the keyboard, kept on popping up and down, and I couldn't control it. I know it's not a normal WM5 issue, as we've a Qtek 9100(HTC Wizard) at work, and it's been working fine for 2 weeks now.
Grr Dell ;)

How do you downgrade back to 2003SE out of interest? Does it require additional software?

thats at the top of the WM5 forum! But I could not get it to work, I sent my AXIM 50v back and they tried but it chocked and died, so at least I know it was not me being dum.
Sounds like you should just get on with 2003 SE on it until

I have to ask a dumb question, How did you go back to WM2003. i have the dell CD that came with my X50v but I don't see a way to reinstall 2003. i tried the update but having bluetooth issues that were not there with WM2003.
