Device unlocked

This cryptic little message on the homescreen... what does it mean? ;-)

It doesn't change if I flick the button lock switch.

Cheers,

Edit: Oopsie. Does help if I try tapping on it. What a absolutely pointless little utility.

It kind of does the same as the lock button (that not every WM5 PDA has).Once you lock it using the app, screen and buttons won't work, unless you press the specific part of the screen that says "unlock"

Ya I found it pointless as well and took it off of the Today screen. Then I just decided to rollback to 2003SE so now I don't have to worry about it.

How do I attach the password to the device lock?

The question I have is how do I tie my password to the device lock/unlock? I haven't figured that out yet and I can't find an answer anywhere online. Is it so simple that I'm just missing it?

With my older Palm IIIx, I could make a stroke motion across the screen to lock the device and password protect it. I haven't figured out how to do that with Windows Mobile 5.

Interesting that I have received my X51v last week and the lock/unlock switch won't work. If I lock it by tapping "lock device" on the Today screen it goes fine, but the hardware switch just doesn't work. My unit has got ROM A06 in it, but I've tried with A01 with which it came and the result was the same.

After contacting Dell's support, they've sent me a new unit, with ROM A06 preinstalled and the first thing I tried was the lock switch. Guess what? It doesn't work.

Now, in the present moment, I have two brand-new X51v's sitting next to me, and none of them has a working lock switch. Moreover, I can't restore the backup I made on the first one the second one, so I'm very little tempted to keep the second one instead of the first one I received.

I wonder if it is a software issue of some sort and if someone else using the X51v with ROM A06 is getting the same problem. I can't belive that I would be sent two units with exactly the same defect... :-)

That is very strange. Mine seems to work fine. I have never heard of the hardware lock not working right...
