WM5 + AS4 WiFi Sync is back!!!

Many thanks to Airscanner.com!!!

http://www.airscanner.com/downloads/airfix/airfix.html

Taken from their website:
Reclaim your Wireless Connection!
Note: This Beta version of AirFix is free for personal, non-commercial use.

With the release of ActiveSync 4.0, mobile users everywhere suffered a great loss. Namely, you can no longer maintain a network connection while synced. This means that you can’t sync via WiFi or an Ethernet connection. According to Microsoft, they removed this useful feature because some corporate customers had thought it was a security risk. However, we believe that taking it out is a much greater risk[1].

The result of this feature removal is that any ActiveSync session (via Bluetooth, IR, or USB) will immediately disable your network connection. Our AirFix program will give the control back to you, which is where it belongs.

So..

I am currently syncing with Bluetooth and after reading the above post I decided to try turning on WiFi... and what do you know... it saw my access point and got an address and then POOF! the address was gone... not until I disconnected from ActiveSync did it manage to keep a WiFi address and connection.

Just a note though... It would appear that WM5 will use a wireless connection (Bluetooth or USB) to allow you to get access to the internet using the host device (computer). So while you do not have direct connection with the built in WiFi you can still surf and use MSN Messenger.

Just my expierence and since I'm new to this PDA my 2 cents worth.

Someday everything will work the way we want it to work... and the money tree in my back yard will start producing...
If at first you don't succeed, pehaps skydiving is not for you !

Tried it briefly. There's no "connect via Wifi" on the device AS so I couldnt get that part going. Additionally, I always sync via BT and that portion suddenly bugged as I couldnt get a clean (no attention required) BT sync anymore. Lastly, I checked if the wifi was enabled during my BT sync connection, and it wasn't.

Since I can sync via BT, I dont need this fix to work really and I don't plan on testing it further.

Um... downgrade. It says on the Microsoft web site not to upgrade to 4 if you don't have WM5.

And I thought this software will allow me to sync to my home computer away from home using the internet.....

Oh well, i guess the only scenario this would be useful is when you sync to a computer without wifi or a connected LAN and want to be able to sync using BT and still surf the internet.

I currently have a WM5 upgraded x50mid and sync with BT regularly. when I used to sync with wifi in WM2003SE, it was much more unstable than this. I like BT sync much better. Easier to set up too!
Just my experience
