Anybody tried the Opera 8.5 for WM5? - Page 5

Hey, as a test to see if Opera really does or doesn't work on 2003se could someone ZIP up the entire contents of the Opera installation folder from your x50v? Then upload it somewhere that I or others can download it and start testing.

The dang installation .cab is only recognized by WM5. Otherwise I would do it myself. I can't find my stupid WM5 upgrade disk but I can find the "Getting Started CD" that accompanies it.

Guys, I have a very strange situation.

Im using:
- Opera 8.5 (incl patched DLL)
- GPRS over Bluetooth.

What happens: Im happily browsing the net with opera. Then, fairly quickly (5-7 pages opened) suddenly I can't fetch more pages. It is connecting, sending request, but no 'receiving data' anymore. OK.

Now the strangeness is: The same happens with pocket IE! Can't seem to fetch any pages anymore! But, with vxutil I can still fetch http, and MSN still works, I can still fetch mail...

Somehow only the WWW rendering capability of my device seems to be destroyed.. its quite bizarre.

I don't know if it's opera related either as you can tell but it is very annoying. Anyone else experience this?

Hmmmmm......OK guys can you help. Loaded the cab to my Axim x51v with the rom update A06. Copied over, after installation the modified dll. Opera starts, but where all the important bits, buttons, functions, menus commands etc should be, there are just squares, no text, just squares ?

Any ideas

No ideas, all i can think of is questions like: Have you tinkered with your icon sets? I seem to remember that some 'force VGA' programs like ozVGA require you to supply various new-resolution iconsets.

Hi - not aware I've changed any settings like that. the axim is 2 weeks old, i've only added the resco stuff that came with the pda from dell. i installed it (opera) to the program file folder, i deleted the opera.dll, loaded the adjusted .dll that I unzipped from the downloaded zip, did a soft restart and opened opera.

just tried it all again, and still the same problem.

i can view sites etc, but have no menus. boo-hoo

I am getting the same squares, after looking into opera.ini the language line reads: Language File=\Application Data\Opera\ja.lng, it seems in the cab released today they removed the english file en.lng so you cannot switch to english unless you get the en.lng file of the previous version, put it in \Application Data\Opera and modify opera.ini

I dont't have the file en.lng, any help will be appreciated

i installed the CAB and did the patch replacement... but all the characters are squares ( i take it in chinese) is there a file or edit i can do to get it into english so i can understand it? it doesn't seem much faster to me then PIE, about the same speed when you turn off the Wifi power save function... but much better realestate.... now if i can just learn to read squares... :S

It also seems to take much longer to load and responds kinda slow... i have a x51v with A04 update... :S

The missing filename is english.lng. My install also has the ja.lng in the Application data\Opera dir. My Opera.ini does not have a Language File directive at all.
By the way, I am enjoy this browser far more than PIE. I wonder if they caught wind that more people were using it that just their Sharp partners.

Chaning the cache settings in the .ini file really speeds things up alot since it defaults to caching in the slow rom of the X50v.

my opera.ini does not have the language directive neither. But the lng file is just text file anyway so here is the content of the file :

Official version of Opera 8.5 for W-Zero3 was released yesterday as scheduled (or a little bit ahead?). The guys who downloaded cab file recently might have got this.

version: 8.5.0.1613 (Opera.exe & Opera.dll)

It is locked to W-Zero3, and moreover omits an English language file. Manual patch method is no longer valid because opera.dll has changed and a binary pattern to modify can't be found there anymore. At this moment no one has written a new patch yet. Replacing opera.dll with modified one method might work but it is nothing but executing old version.

Opera for Windows Mobile (open to any WM5) is still in a state of "coming soon."

I've been testing Opera tonight and it cant really compare itself to Minimo. Minimo beats it when it comes to rendering and tabs.

Although it's still better than both pocket ie and netfront if you ask me.

It hasn't seemed to help me. I copied the text into pocket word and saved the file as english.lng in txt format in the same folder as the program, but noc change. :-(
