Problem connecting to internet when Axim X51 is in the cradle
Hi,
I have just purchased a Dell Axim X51 with PC Mobile 2005 on it. I use it at work, which is a large state agency and we have all kind of security measures in place with our internet connections. Any way, I can connect to the internet using my desktop computer fine when the Axim is not in the cradle, but if I put it in the cradle and then try to connect to the internet using my desktop computer I get a "Cannot find server of DNS error" message in the browser. If I disconnect the Axim and then open up the browser again, it works fine. Also, if I already have a browser window open and then plug in the Axim, the browser continues to work OK. Everything works fine on my home computer, and I get the same error at work using both Netscape and Internet Explorer. Any ideas so that I can speak intelligently to our DIS people here with what may be the problem? Thanks, Jim

I was starting to think I was the only one, since nobody had responded. I may try to post this on another forum. Why is PC Mobile, or ActiveSync, apparently trying to access the internet without me knowing about it?

Same Problem
And also very often when I tried to synchronise the Axim my laptop is getting so hot, that after 1-2 minutes it turns off by itself. I worry aboout this problem and I don't know what to do.

What's I noticed is that activesync and the dell axim x51v sets up a 'ethernet' connection via USB when you plug it into the cradle. It gets assigned a 169.x.x.x address. What might be happening is you have a subnet mask issue or a interface metric issue - where your machine is sending dns queries out on the wrong interface (along with other traffic probably).
I suggest you plug in your axim then do a route print and ipconfig /all and send that to you is folks to see. For me, I had to open my firewall to allow the axim to connect to my pc, but I'm sure it's just a different manifestation of the same issue.
