Backing up - confusion..

Since I've had my X51 (2 months) I've done a couple of hard resets and used it on 2 diffrent PCs. The activesync options have always been the same. 'Favourites' and 'Files' are the only tickable items. Of which I have none!! The most important thing to me is the PIM and Contacts data, and the tick boxes are greyed out and always have been. What the heck is going on, why can't I select these options to backup!?!

Are you establishing a relationship when you log in or just as guest? Also, you have to use Outlook, not Outlook Express, to make the rest of them become enabled. Not sure if either of those are your problem but they are a good place to start. Let us know about this and we will help more if needed.

Thanks for the reply! I have a proper relationship sync with my PC.

Outlook you say? I see.. so basically I am forced to use Outlook to backup my personal data?
I don't use Outlook, I use Thunderbird. I thought the whole point of a 'backup' is such that the information can be restored if your Axim goes pop, or has Microsoft redefined this meaning?

Sounds like you're looking at the options in activesync. Do a backup of your PIM data and then move that to your pc thru AS. hth

You mean there is no option to do this automatically?!
(No, I didn't RTFM!) So, um, where is the PIM data stored? If it isn't in the only folder that Activesync can backup (The My Documents folder in main memory) then how can I get it to sync every time I cradle the device?

Thanks in advance.. I should have really started this in the newbie forum. Though I don't think Wm5 has made this process simple.

I've been looking at Sprite Backup for my X51v. Even though I use Outlook for PIM (so no real need to backup for that reason), I still want the comfort level of backing up my entire X51v. As of last week Sprite was beta-testing their WM5 product. After I finish this post, I'm going to revisit where they are at.

Is it just me or is ActiveSync really really flaky? Used to be, from my Axim, I could select all the types of data to configure settings and synch. Now, just like you've stated, some have decided to "gray out." In my case, the bottom four: Notes, Favorites, Files, Media are all "grayed." What the hell? And how do I determine whether I have a "proper" relationship between my PDA and laptop?

On another front, freakin' ActiveSync has suddenly decided to synch and then synch and then synch and then synch some MORE. Used to, it would get everything synched and then kinda NOT try to synch unless something changed on either end, or some time had elapsed. Anyone else having this problem? Luckily, I can "stop synch" from the laptop but I'm afraid that I forget, and then my battery shoots down.

Ugggh. . . . ACTIVESYNCH.
