Organizing documents and folders

On my X5 every app put files in the My Documents folder, and when I used an SD or CF card, files in the My Docs folder(s) showed up as well.

With WM5 on my X51, not so much. It seems like there are files all over the place, but sometimes I can't find them. For example, I can put Notes in the My Docs folder on my SD card, but if I put them in a sub-folder, Notes can't find them.

Don't even get me started on Mobile Word. I mostly don't use it 'cause I can't figure out how to find my docs.

Any suggestions on how to organize my storage so I can use storage cards and folders?

Well, I'm embarrased to answer my own post. I played around with files today and here's what I found out.

In Built In Storage (BIS) files are created in the My Documents folder. Folders inside the My Documents folder are searched, but the search stops at the first level. Here's an attempt at a graphic:

\My Documents -- Searched
\My Documents\Personal -- Searched
\My Documents\Personal\Sailing -- not searched.

On the CF and SD cards, the root is considered the same as the My Documents folder, and folders one level deep are searched. The old requirement of having a "My Documents" folder on the SD card doesn't appear to affect things any more. It looks like this:

\SD Card\ -- Searched
\SD Card\Business - Searched
\SD Card\Business\Finance - Not searched

If you have two folders at the root of any storage (BIS, SD or CF) with the same name, the contents of the two folders are merged in the directory listings. Files stored on a removable card are marked with a different icon from the ones stored in the BIS. Like this:

\My Documents\Sailing\Log601.pwi
\SD Card\Sailing\TaskList.pwi

appears in folder lists as:
Sailing\Log601.pwi
Sailing\TaskList.pwi

I hope this helps out others who are having problems figuring out how their WM5 files are appearing in the file lists.

Chuck

Is there a reason why Microsoft chose to implement this limitation (stop search at only 2 levels)? I remember this problem from the old PocketPC2002 OS but I thought it was a bug that would've been removed by now.

btw, just got my new axim yesterday :)
