Can anyone compare sprite vs. data backup?

After owning an X51V/A06 for about two weeks,I dumbly downloaded an incompatible program - hard stop. No help w multiple soft resets. Hard reset and load all those programs and settings

Sprite for WM5 is in beta and I did a backup but holding off on attemping any restore. Also did data backup. No attempt at restoring with that either. I don't need the aggravation! :bang:

What's the difference in what gets saved or not? What other functional differences should I know about? Thx!!

I've used Sprite backup (WM5 beta), and have restored after a hard reset. All program settings, serial numbers, etc. were restored properly - it's just as if I didn't reset. Naturally, this assumes you've saved all this info in your backup :)

I can't speak for databackup, but from what I've read, and my experience with it on earlier Axims, I'd go with Sprite.

i've used data backup after a hard reset, i've also heard sprite is better, but you have to pay for that. In my opinion databackup is fine.

unless you want to use ActiveSync, in which case it will create duplicates when you sync and possibly break sync altogether. I'd stay away from the built-in utility if I were you.

Sprite backup beta failed to restore on my WM5 x50v. Cost me 14-20 hours of work. Try sunnysoft, it's fully WM5 compatible.

Just out of curiosity, is the Sprite Beta completely free? Does it expire at some point, or will it continue working?

Sprite Backup is a cost item, it does not have a trial period, and it does work very well on my X50V running WM2K3.2; however, it does not yet work on WM5.

I meant the BETA version that (supposedly) does work on WM5. I found a download link for it here , but I don't know if the beta will expire or if it will continue working forever.

Didn't think so, but I was just curious, as I saw no mention of an expiration date in the EULA.

and that's my stupid question of the day! Thank you!

i've read that current Sprite beta expires on Feb 1. If there is a new beta, I assume they will change the expire date.

I also saw Feb 1 as the expiration date on Sprite's beta forum. I may also do some research on Sunnysoft which has been mentioned here a bunch of times.

I have the Sprite Backup 5.01, build 1259 Beta, intalled on my X51v. Yes, it expires 2/1/06.
I have used it when upgrading from A04 to A06.
Backup 106Mb and restore afterwards.
The sprite Bacup works flawless.

I think that the release will be by then. Worked fine on my x50v with wm5. But then so did the built in databackup, at least when using it to restore to the same ROM version.

Really? I tried it on WM5 using my X50v and it completely bombed out my ActiveSync setup. Hmm...
