Let's Talk Some Mo' . . . VGA, yeah!
O.K., so I think I've got it:
WM5.0 *will* make full use of the Axim's VGA screen, WITHOUT "VGA HACK" SOFTWARE, as long as an application is programmed to recognize that VGA is available and is written to make use of it. Examples include Pocket IE, Pocket Excel, and Pocket Word. What is the purpose, then, of installing this "hack software?" Can it take applications that are *not* programmed to display in VGA and make them VGA? And doesn't that just make them appear really tiny and on only 1/4 of the screen like a lot of people complain about? Pan

VGA-aware programs display everything at the same size as on QVGA screens, but with 2x the resolution both horizontally and vertically i.e. 4 times the number of pixels. For instance, instead of using 32x32 pixel icons 64x64 pixel icons are used. The result is a much more crisp and readable display than with QVGA. When using SE_VGA or ozVGA this so called pixel doubling is disabled, and the application is back at 32x32 pixel icons and small fonts. Everything is 4 times smaller, therefore allowing to display 4 times as much. Many find this mode too hard to use, though.
Not VGA-aware programs are pixel doubled by the operating system. This basically means that each pixel is drawn twice both horizontally and vertically, resulting in a somewhat fuzzy display. These applications may or may not work in the non pixel doubled "true VGA" mode.
