DELL replaced my Oct. 2004 x50v because of WM 5.0 upgrade issue

Afternoon,

I posted this under the downgrade sticky, but thought it might be more noticeable if I made it a thread.

You're not going to believe this !!!!!!! Replacement PDA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally caved in and went back to WM 2003SE last week. (Battery drain and soft reset daily still issues) Everything went smooth, and as everyone has said, mine was back to normal. But when I started to load programs back on, I noticed that the Built-in Storage was missing completely in WM 2003 SE. After checking here for anyhing similar, I contacted DELL chat. The first 5 people (and 4 hours worth of time) were really no help at all. They never seemed to understand the problem. But the last one suggested re-installing the 2003SE OS.
Of course, you have to re-upgrade to WM 5.0 before you can use the downgrade program again. So, I pulled out my WM 5.0 CD's and started again to go to WM 5.0. One quarter bar into the upgrade to 5.0 for the 2nd time, and it stopped - FOREVER. As other people on the site have said. I now had a high priced paper weight. Nothing could be done. Clearly, I don't need to tell any of you what was going through my mind. Fortunately, I kept all of my chat info - names, times, etc. The 6th new chat person I talked with online said they needed a few minutes to review my case. And no lie, they came back right away and said they would be sending me a replacement PDA right away. (I purchased my original x50v in October of 2004) 2nd business day later and a refurbished x50v arrives with 2003SE installed (with BIS working) Who would have ever thought that DELL would have sent me a replacement !!! :) :approve: (they still need to fix WM 5.0)

They replaced mine also, purchased in January 2005. It is my opinion that the only reason they are so readily replacing these units is that they know what a tremendous problem the upgrade has caused. I only wish they'd give me back the $40 for the upgrade cd's or get a ROM update....the cd came in November 05-Axim replaced in November 05-here we are in Feb 06 and no solution.......

I was still surprised. I don't know if I would trust even a "fix" at this point in time. WM 2003SE seems to work just great. It would be nice to get our $40 back.....
