Push email for WM5

This will probably appear on the news page later on but Microsoft is adding push email to Windows Mobile 5 via a service pack in March 06.

Yes, but unfortunately you will still need an upgrade to your ROM in order to have this capability... and we all know how good Dell is about this at the moment =)

This software was actually released by Microsoft last Novemebr, the March date is for the OEMs to customise the update and release it for their device. This is the much talked about AKU2 release that also adds the stereo audio profile to the bluetooth stack. The biggest issue is Dell MAY not decide to offer it.

Think Blackberry! Push e-mail allows (in this case) Exchange Server 2003 (with SP2!) to notify a device there is new e-mail and force a sync to download it. The idea is that instead of the device checking frequently for mail on the server (pull) the server "pushes" the mail to the device. It saves on mobile data useage.

Push email is when the server automatically delivers the email to your device. The current approach is that the server sends a specially formatted SMS message to your device and then the device initiates a sync. With push email, the server can just send the new items to the device without the device having to initiate the sync process.
