Clueless On Odyssey Client [Axim X51]
I noticed "Odyssey Client" was installed by default in Axim X51 and my guess is it's for secure WiFi connection (VPN maybe?). Can someone please tell me:
- what Odyssey Client really is
- can it be removed/disabled (if it's an optional apps), how and possible side effects?
- if I removed it, will I still be able to connect to any WiFi AP automatically and use Internet Explorer, MSN Messenger, etc?
Thanks.

Odyssey Client allows you to use WPA encryption versus just WEP as available with the Dell WLAN Utility. I've successfully made connections to using WEP with the Odyssey Client but when I power off and power on the unit it takes a while to get it working again. Since I use WEP I've made sure that Odyssey Client is not starting up automatically and I'm using the Dell Utility.
I'm not sure if there's a way to completely remove it but if you make sure it's not starting up automatically in the Startup folder you should be ok.
When disable the wireless will still function as long you use the Dell Utility to connect to wireless networks.

Thanks guys for the clarification.
@ecltech: I'd removed the "odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart.lnk" from the startup folder to prevent Odssey Client from auto-starting. The "OdClientCE.exe" is at 2,484KB (in the "\Program Files\Funk Software\Odyssey Client" folder). And since 'phillevy' is able to connect in WPA using Dell WLAN Utility, I guess it's safe to zip "OdClientCE.exe" up and move it to SD card (just in case I need it next time)? Please advise

The oddesy client allows things like LEAP (server side authentication / certificates) which can be useful in corporate environments, but it has been known to cause slowdowns and "lag" when bringing the X51 out of standby.
The Dell WLAN utility can handle WPA and WEP so is geenerally all a home user will need.

Thanks for the extra info. Gonna zip and move the "OdClientCE.exe" to SD card. By the way, I think I come across a thread where they reckon to put a dummy ""OdClientCE.exe" into the "\Program Files\Funk Software\Odyssey Client" folder. Is it necessary and does the dummy do anything when executed?

I cut and paste it into another a custom folder "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Utilities" and I set the 'hidden' bit so that it won't show in Start Menu

no need to do that. if it has started up and shows up on the toolbar at the bottom, open it and then hit settings and exit. that will stop it from starting up after each soft reset. to get rid of the large file copy /windows/odClient.exe from your pda to anywhere else that you want to and then make a .txt file with notepad on your pc and call it odClient.exe but leave the file empty then copy it to your pda in the /windows directory and there you go. but it will come back if you hard reset as it resides in the ROM and you can't get rid of that. The biggest fix to this though is to not have it start if you don't need it because it will slow down your start up dramatically so do the first part of this at least.

Hmmm... Funny, I have the "OdClientCE.exe" in the "\Program Files\Funk Software\Odyssey Client" folder but not "odClient.exe" ("\Windows" folder) though... Is it a typo or that file really exists?

depending on what you are looking with you might have to tell it to show all files or show system files in order to see it. it is a write protected system file so some file browsers don't show it.
