Unsigned install fails on Axim X51

I have an unsigned application that produces the usual prompt when installed on an iPAQ rx1955 (WM5), but one of my customers with a new Axim x51 tells me he gets a more severe message without the option of installing anyway: "Installation was unsuccessful. Application was not signed by a trusted authority". Is this a security setting that he can override, or are Axim X51s just hardwired that way? I don’t have an X51 to play with, so I can’t tell.

Me too

I am having the same problem and am looking for a way around it. Glad to know it is not just me. I could use some help here.

Well, my customer with the Axim tried it again and was eventually successful. One suggestion I got from someone at Microsoft was that if the user ignores or doesn't notice the prompt about installing from an "unknown publisher", that prompt eventually times out and assumes that you answered "NO", and then the more severe error message is displayed. Perhaps if you did a soft reset and tried it again you might get the more usual prompt that allows you to decide whether or not to trust the "unknown publisher". Let me know here if you eventually got it to work and how you did it. I don't have an Axim to play with, so I don't know.

The soft reset is what the software company recommended I try. I did it 3 times and that did not help me.

The simplest solution is to disable Microsofts Trusted Applications software on the Axim. Since not even Microsofts PPC software is currently signed it is useless and can cause problems by not allowing mui resources to work properly. Tweak2k.net offers a free program which will disable it or you can install Tweak2k and run it once which automatically disables it.

The tweak2k did not work for me. I got the impression it would automatically disable the certificates but it did not. I could not find in the program where you could do that either. I am frustrated.

I have gone so far as to do a hard reset and try to reload the program with only the original factory settings and programs but I still get the no digitally signed security certificate.

This is so very frustrating.

Where do these security certificate requirements come from?
