new Windows Mobile OS this year

The last line of the Wikipedia entry for WM 2005 says they expect a new WM OS out this year. Has anyone heard any more about this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows...ows_Mobile_5.0

BTW, the X51v is selling for $399 Canadian right now at dell.ca (That's less than $350 US.)

Wow. I don't quite know what to make of this. Thanks for the heads up though.

Seems odd they would codename it after existing technology.

If it's a major update to fix the existing problems, especially ActiveSync, I can see that, but I can't see it being a whole new OS. WM5 is barely out of the gate.

They want money!
Change to OS fast and all the people who spent money on the expensive WM% upgraded units know have to spend money on an even more expensive upgrade!

Be careful with Wiki information..... It's not always based on actually facts, but the "perceived" facts of the contributor.

Until it's officially announced by Microsoft, consider it speculation at best. Using Wikipedia as an authorative source can be quite... risky. Especially since that 'fact' sounds more like a rumor or justification for why Dell isn't 'fixing' the WM5 issues.

Zatx is right. You can add pretty much anything you want in Wikipedia.

That sounds like their push e-mail feature. Hence the name Crossbow means something for a change. This push e-mail feature needs the merge of phones and pdas to function because the device needs to be connected all the time in order for push e-mail to work. That is my guess.

this just occurred to me... i'm sure a lot of you had heard of microsoft's new origami project (if not there's an official event that's gonna take place tomorrow, thursday the 2nd). it seems to follow that if there's a new mobile OS coming out from MS, it would be smart to start it out on something that could be as hot as the origami.

here's a link to a flash that was leaked:
http://creativecoremedia.com/mso.swf

and what looks to be an official site:

If there will be a Windows Mobile 5 Second Edition then its seems to be following the pattern set by WM2003 upgraded to WM2003se. Microsoft seems to be pretty prolific in releasing new mobile OS's every year to 18 months.
