Delete all traces of PPC and activesync from PC?
Hi,
I can hard reset an axim to remove everything. But what about its desktop counterpart? For the life of me, how do I delete/remove/annihilate all traces of activesync and all remannts of an axim ppc from my computer? I mean everything. When I remove activesync, lo and behold when I replug in a brand new device, it's got pocket mechanic, tomtom, and laridian, handyswitcher, still there under the activesync add/remove programs on the PC! I want it ALL gone, as if I've never had a ppc before on my computer. Seriously, it's so easy with a palm. I've been forced into the ppc camp now b/c of software needs and being convinced that palm os is dead. Will deleting the programfiles/microsoft/activesync folder do the trick? What else must I delete???

uninstall activesync properly, then delete the activesync folder under programs. this the best you can do. some dlls will be left behind and you will not know which ones. Also there maybe registry entries. Every time Imess with those directly I end up with the real answer. Format the hard drive and reload wlindows.

In my case I was trying to revert ActiveSync from 4.1 to 3.8, so this may not be the complete solution for you, but what I found was there are two DLLs that ActiveSync 4.1 uninstall does not remove (and so in my case ActiveSync 3.8 used them because they are newer than its own versions): rapi.dll ceutils.dll And regarding removing all traces from the registry - there seems to be a lot of stuff in the registry with ActiveSync in its name that is needed for other non-ActiveSync stuff to work (as I discovered when I cleaned up ). So be careful with that axe Eugene Mike

there is a folder that holds the profiles.. i am not at home right now so i can't tell you exactly where it is . once deleted every thing should be gone.
i will post back once i get a chance to check EDIT: check C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles or similar. in the profiles folder you will find the list of names that you have ever used. Once erased from here, you can re-name your pda to old ones that it says are "still in use" and it *should* take care of the programs showing up. let me know if it works for that... i know for sure that it fixes the "profile still in use" problem.
