I've never had a razr nor an axim, but I'll say yes

I used SMSManager with a couple different PDAs ad cell phones. There are other apps that work the same way.

I tried it with a x51v and a v600 and i haven't got it to work,
afaik you need a Serial connections via bluetooth which the v600 doesn't have.

Can't be done with the V3. Motorola's bluetooth stack is just as bad as the Axim's. The v3 doesn't have the serial profile, which is required. I have done it with a Sony Ericsson 600i w/o making any changes to my Axim, so the problem lies with the v3, not the Axim.

Sorry... I'm disappointed about it too cause I love my v3 otherwise.

However... there is a suite of software out there made by BVRP called Pocket Phone Tools. It is for WM2003. It claims to be able to send SMS and dial via BT on a v3 (check their 'compatible devices' list). So, maybe BVRP knows something I don't and there is a software workaround for the lack of a serial BT profile on the v3. Unfortunately, Pocket Phone Tools doesn't work on WM5.0, so us x51v owners are still out of luck with the v3.

Thanks for the post Forge42. I was afraid the serial profile was needed and you're right, it doesn't exist on the V3. Sucks. I too love my V3.

I've heard about Pocket Phone Tools. I may look into it just to see what doesn't work on WM5.0. I think I may also go check out some V3 forums to see if there is a hack out there somewhere. Doubt it though.

I have faith that our Bluetooth issues will eventually become resolved. I just hate waiting.

OUBeaver:

You are certainly more than welcome to check out anything you'd like. However, I can save you the trouble... I've checked motomodders.net and motox.... nobody has a way to add the profile to the v3.

As for pocket phone tools on WM5... it's strange. I tried the trial and the program would start up just fine. However, the first thing you do is use dropdown menus to select which phone you have. Those menus would drop down for me, but I couldn't select anything. I messed around with it for 10 or 15 minutes and never could get it to work and chalked it up to WM5 incompatibility. The boards over at BVRP suggest that other users are having similar problems and they are asking BVRP to make a WM5 version. However, I don't know how likely that is given the problems with the WM5 BT stacks.. BVRP may actually not be able to make a version for WM5. :shurg:

Well...crap.

Thanks again for your input. Those were the two sites I was rooting around in too. Nothing.

Time to find something else to play around with on my Ax.

Out.

My sentiments exactly. I was really disappointed at first.. .but, I really don't know how much I would've used it anyway. Still.. would've been nice.

Most Moto phones (v3, Slvr) do have a serial profile, just not a Serial Port profile. Moto uses a SPP over DUN. If the program you want to use suports it, select DUN as the way to connect and it should work.

An Aximsite member, bbousquet, whipped up something that runs under WM5. Check it out. Probably won't help you with the missing profile, but ya never know.

If you use the new Widcomm BT stack developed on this site it might work. I have got MultiSMS working on my x51v and Nokia 6630.

If you figure it out, let me know... I'm getting my x51 today. My RAZR V3 is Verizon so I'm not very hopeful it will work. I never could get it to work with my LifeDrive..

If I figure anything out, I'll post here.

Verizon? You have my sympathies. How long is your sentence, may I ask?

Thanks for resurrecting my post everyone.

I do know about zSMS that bbousquet has created. Works perfectly so far. Pretty much answered my prayers.

I am really really close to setting up the Widcomm stack just to see what more I can do. I'm nervous though. I don't want to lose my bluetooth activesync or gprs connection with my RAZR, etc.... I guess there's always the hard reset. I've had my Ax since x-mas and haven't had to do that yet........
Important safety tip: Don't cross the streams.
