I have an X50V, and having suffered most of the problems described, I have reverted back to 2003 SE. Not sure yet whether to wait for a more stable WM5 release, or upgade to an X51V.
Do the X51V's suffer the same problems with WM5, as the X50V's?
If it were me I would keep the X50 with 2003. I think it is best to upgrade to every other incremental product. More bang for the buck. Since you have an X50 I would wait for the X52 or the windows 2006 model. Now if you did not have one I would say Don't delay buy today.
For example look at early PCs. 8086 good, 286 skip, 386 better, 486 skip, Pentium okay, Pentium 2 skip.
Benots4 - that seems to make sense. The issue for me though is that I need to be on WM5 sooner than later to utilise push email (we use Exchange SP2 at work).
I've read a lot on these forums that suggests that the X51V ought to be better than X50V for WM5 owing to it's architecture. What I'm after though is some real life examples as to whether the main X50V WM5 problems (e.g. slow performance, battery life, hanging etc) are indeed not problems with the X51V. Any input is appreciated.
There is reportedly a WM5.0 SE due out in the first half of 2006, codename Crossbow. There is a brief article on Brighthand from December '05 about it here. I would at least wait until that is out and see if that is rolled out on the Axim line.

Certainly not in my experience. My X51v has been pretty much trouble-free save for one unexplained glitch a few months ago.
And Dell will probably charge another 40 bucks for this so called upgrade. The fact that the WM5 "upgrade" for the x50v does not work (well?) will not stop them.

skip p4? =D haha.
anyways, from what i read, the x50v + wm5 has a significantly worse battery life than x51v...which is idiotic, because they should be the same. release a dang rom update dell!
that crossbow article doesnt say much at all... i doubt it will be anything important.
i got a X51v and i have no problems with it most of the time. heres the problems i do get:
white screen of death of it idles off in a program and i turn it back on too quickly
PIE has some script problems at times on some particular sites
had some wifi connection problems when i upgraded to A06... Wififofum fixed that.
very very occasional dissappearence of CF card...
slow wake up, maybe due to my background pic and SPB Pocket Plus.
yeah not much problems at all. i didnt even realize you x50 guys got it that bad... i thought "it couldnt be THAT bad"...
as for me, i would always forever keep upgrading software...
by modifying your X50v REGEDIT may solve some problems...but I don't know whether there are some related tutorials in this forum ...PS:SORRY FOR MY POOR ENGLISH......
Most Stable - X50V with WM 2003 SE
Next - X51V with WM5
Worst - X50V with WM5
I'm not sure I totally agree with this assessment. WM5 on my X51v is not any worse than WM2003se on my X30h. If fact, I could say that I have experienced more oddities on my X30 than my X51 (after it has been updated to A06). My only real complaint all along for the newer PDA has been ActiveSync more than WM5. ActiveSync appears to have taken a big step backwards in terms of performance and functionality.

I wouldnt suggest x51 if you are on a budget likw most of us, since it has about the same hardware configuration as x50 (yes, I know, there is minor difference, but not worth 3-400 bucks). If you cant wait for WM5, just flash to it now, and do some tweak with it, it will work fine. I have nothing to complain about my x50v with WM5 'cept the bluetooth stack, which x51 has the exact same problem.
But on the other hand, if you have unlimited access to resouces, go ahead, buy a x51, it will work better than your x50 for now
