Networking issues w/ linux

I have a home network set up with 2 linux machines. 1 is acting as a gateway/firewall which is running PPTP VPN server. The other is behind it ascting just as a file server. The VPN and samba file server work great with my laptop, but dont work at all on my Axim x51v.

I have searched and I found this: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...ighlight=samba

I did the trick, but it did NOT work :( I should add that I set up a shared folder on my Windows PC and was able to network to it fine.

Any ideas?

BTW, both machines are running ClarkConnect Home 3.2

I have two slackware boxes, one (file server) running samba, behind another slack based firewall/router/vpn box. I have never had any problems. What exactly is happening? What distro are you running? Can you connect to any smb share?

Well I managed to get samba working finally. PPTP VPN still isnt working. Like I said in my first post, both the gateway (running vpn server) and the fileserver are running ClarkConnect Home.

PPTP VPN is heavily affected by the need for mppc compression, as well as mppe stateful encryption. You need to patch any kernel before 2.6.15 to get mppc. Try disabling the axim's compression and encryption in the advanced tab; see if it works then.

I wasn't able to get my Axim to browse my Samba shares. What did you do? Did you turn off encryption or sign-n-seal?

When connecting through my home router or a winxp VPN I can browse shares well... There was an adjustment I had to make to smb.conf, but I don't remember it. I found it by googling. My linux VPN connects, compression and encryption and all, but no routing. I am stuck there. I can ping all of my machines, but not relay SMB or NetBIOS info.

Mine has "just worked". What version of smb are you running? Type "smbd -V"...
