Cool WM5 Refund Request - On Mass

I called Dell today for a status update for WM5 for X50, not surprisingly I didn't get anywhere. I ordered and paid $50+ for the WM5 software as my Axim came with WM2003. Since the update is, for all intents and purposes, useless, I'm proposing that we come up with a date which if we don't receive an update which makes the software usable we start demanding refunds for the software. Even the Dell rep I spoke to said not to use the upgrade software because of all the issues. How does May 1st sound? What do people think? I for one have no intention of paying for something I can't use.

One more thing...I see that others have already got a refund from Dell and are keeping the CD. Why would Dell allow that if there are plans to release an update? I don't think we'll ever see an update from WM5 for the X50. If they were going to release an update they would have done so by now.

because letting people keep the CD costs them nothing. There is no resale value in it... and it would cost postage and handling costs to take it back

Eh, I'll wait it out. They're bound to have a fix eventually. Right?

In response to an inquiry for recommendations for our production x50 units our dell rep told us not to expect any fix on the X50, we were advised to rollback our production units to WM2003.

Get your refund any way you can.:rolling:

After seeing this thread, I called up Dell Customer Support. I was also told that a WM5 upgrade for my x50v may never happen. They said that they only had an upgrade for the x51 series. I was told that they would "make an exception" and give me a full refund even though the software was shipped on 10/30/05. I had told them that on 11/05 I had to send back an x50v that locked up permanently after using WM5.

My advice would be for folks not to wait like I did but get the refund now while they can. Either that or follow all the posts that describe what is necessary to make WM5 work and hope that they do not installl something that causes a permanent lockup like I had.
