restoring from backups = defragmenting?

Just curious if anyone has confirmed whether the process of restoring from a backup image on the Axim would also essentially do a defragmentation of the ROM itself at the same time?

I'm not even sure if the ROM gets defragmented - but I'm sure with repeated installation and removal of programs and files, the files on the ROM would become at the very least non-contiguous?

So maybe a better question is: does restoring from a backup image make the files more compact/contiguous?

This has been discussed before and I think the answer was that it really doesn't matter since the fragmentation problem is only a real problem with a hard drive due to it having to physically move the arm back and forth to get all the pieces of the file put back together. do a search on 'fragment' and see if you find any of the old discussions. But I don't think it is a problem.
