Has anyone found a working fix for the slow internet connection under WM5 using WiFi?
Tried a forum search and didnt get any good results. Everything is so slow on my x51v that its no joke. Just to load Google pocket IE will say "locating" for 60 seconds before even establishing a connection.
Email takes about 90 seconds to log onto the server just to see if there are messages to download. God help me if there are messages ;)
NewsBreak v1.01 takes almost 10 minutes to update 5 rss feeds.
I know its not the Axim. I also have an iPaq that before the WM5 upgrade, blazed on the net over WiFi. Since I upgraded the iPaq to WM5 its just as slow as my x51v.
I tried the TCP regedit from PPC2003 and did not make any difference. Not better but at least not worse.
Tried AC power and no go. Tried disabling power management for Wireless and no go.
So. Does anyone have any tips or ideas how to improve performance?
Thanks for the tips guys but still no go. I'm already on chan. 11 and using the DNS from my ISP didnt speed things up any.
Odd problem really. When I was using my ipaq with WM2003 SE it blazed. Upgraded to WM5 and slow. Now have an Axim with WM5 and same slow story.
I think its definitely related to WM5. Something changed in the OS but I cant figure out what it is.
Like with mail. In WM5 checking mail takes forever and I am always prompted with a message saying the certificate isn't valid proceed any way?
Something that didnt happen under PPC2003. So I wonder if the problem is under WM5 that there is some security policy feature that is slowing down TCP communication? If that makes sense.
That may solve browsing. But I would be left with: Mail, RSS, IM being dog slow.
I tried WebIS Flexmail 2006 and thats even slower than pocket outlook. The speed is so slow in general its like a 9600 BPS modem. (Hey remember those days?)

i have the 51v and it is very fast online....i use it instead of the laptop now
Ok I learned something new. Although may not help much in determining the problem.
No matter what web page I load Pocket IE says "Locating" in the status bar for 30 seconds before making a connection. Dosent matter what site\page.
NewsBreak uses PIE to download feeds. So now it makes sense why that is slow. 10 feeds are going to equal "locating" @ 30 seconds per feed. 5 minutes worth of locating pages.
I did a speed test on dslreports and I am getting 935 kbits on average test. So the speed itself is not a problem. Its that 30 second delay before PIE will connect to a web site.
Does anyone know anything about this? BTW this also is the prolem on my iPaq running WM5. Same 30 second delay while locating page.

I dont run a proxy and dont have OnSpeed. Pocket IE did not have this 30 second delay with the status text "Locating..." in WM2003. This is only new in WM5 version of Pocket IE.
When I was running PIE under 2003 it just connected. No delay. No locating page. Home network is unchanged.
I just found out that the 30 second delay while "locating..." does not happen if your browsing pages on the same domain. Here is an example...
- Open PIE and goto: google
- 30 second delay while locating page
- Perform a search
- Results page is displayed on my device in 3 seconds
- Navigate to results page 2. Displayed in a few seconds
- Navigate to another domain and I get the 30 second delay again while locating page.
I just did a quick scan through the previous posts and did see it mentioned, but have you disabled the Power save feature in the Dell WLAN? Having it enabled or on Auto will cause slow connections (and, with some routers, will disrupt the connection completely).
