Cannot Connect to the Internet

Everytime I open up Explorer and try to connect I get the following message: Cannot Connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings.

This happens regardless whether it's cradled or in wireless mode.

I subscribe to Avantgo and it updates fine when it syncs, but cannot get through any other time.

Anyone got any ideas?

Do you have a wireless router set up correctly when in wireless, and do you have as set up to pass through to get internet connection.

What I find (found) most annoying about this message is that if you do click Settings, it brings up a load of crap about setting up a modem connection etc, which is nothing to do with the wireless problem!

First check that your wireless router is transmitting in either B only or B+G mode. If it's set to G only, the Axim doesn't stand a chance. For safe wireless operation, your router should be using WEP or WPA-PSK encryption, hidden SSID, and perhaps even MAC ID filtering too. Is it? If so, the Axim will need to know some extra details...

* To overcome the hidden SSID, you'll need to tell the Axim the name of the network.
* For WPA-PSK, you'll also need to tell the Axim the encyption key that's entered on your router.
* For MAC-ID filtering, you'll need to tell the router to allow your Axim's MAC-ID to connect. Routers normally show what devices are in the vicinity and then let you choose the ones to allow.

I have all three security measures enabled on my Netgear DG834G, and the Axim connects fine all round the house.

Cannot Connect

The router appears to be transmitting fine. In fact the Axim was connecting one minute and then just stopped the next day and I didn't change any settings on the router. I get strong wireless reception on the Axim and no problem when I connect my laptop. I believe this problem is in the Axim settings.

I could previously connect to the internet on the Axim while cradled going through my laptops hardwired connection, but now I get the message whenever I start IE.

What about a hard boot and a reload of ActiveSync?

Make sure the Power save function in the WLAN utility is disabled.

When you ge the "Cannot Connect with current connection settings," do you have a valid IP?

A settings that often helps: in the network settings - Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Select Networks and select "My Work Network" from both of the pull down lists. If you then tap the Edit... button under either list and the Proxy Settings (tab), the top box (This network connects to the Internet) should be checked but leave everything else on this page blank. After tapping OK, make sure both dropdown lists are still set to My Work Network and OK your way back to the Today page and then soft reset (note, some people find selecting "The Internet" in the dropdown lists works better for them but that usually happens when something has been entered in the Proxy field or Modems page on the Work settings. In any case, the two dropdown lists generally need to be set the same to avoid the cannot connect error.)
