getting rid of the last-used programs in start menu

hey guys, this one has been bugging me for a while now. how do I get rid of the last-used program list that's in my start menu? I've combed all the settings and everything, and can't find a way to get rid of it. WM2003SE did not have it.

thanks for any help, I tried searching and cound't find anything that pertained to this.

As far as I know there isn't any way to get rid of that. It is also in 2003se. I use Wisbar Advanced 2 and it has a check box in it's settings to either show or not show the last used programs. In addition to the other benefits.

I set SKTools to run an unattended scheduled automatic cleanup of this every night. Most of these type of tools (MemMaid is another) will clean this up. Of course, it is a MRU queue (most recently used), and the older ones automatically fall off in favor of newer used ones. Be sure to validate WM5 compatibility for any software you choose to use.

THANK YOU! I just checked out WisBar to see if it had that setting, and it did

stupid me for not checking earlier. and I never had to deal with that problem with 2003, I guess maybe the older version of WisBar that I used just came with the show recent program list unchecked...

if the device is running in landscape mode ... this will not be a problem :)

I've had this exact problem in the past when trying to use an automated macro to run programs where the macro recording utilized the position that you'd clicked/recorded to execute the command(s).

the macro wouldn't work because of the last-used program items in the start menu would screwed up the X/Y co-ordinates of the recorded clicks. ( pushing the intended item further down the list ...etc)

long story short .... turning the screen to landscape mode eliminated this problem :approve: and now I run macro all the time ( ultilized voice macro to execute anything I wanted ) :approve:

When I had my e740 running 2002, I thought there was an option in settings somewhere that would clear that. That does drive me crazy (I'm a neat freak). I also keep seeing this and can NOT figure it out. Lemme draw you a picture to show you.

Does anyone know how you can do this?

You can selectively delete the Recent Program lists by editing the registry and deleting the keys corresponding to the program you don't want shown....or delete all of it.

The list is located here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskSwi tch

You have to do a soft reset afterwards to update the list.

Simply you can clear the list with this .reg file if you are using any registry editor:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
