Uninstalling a stubborn unwanted program

I installed K-metronome software on my x51v Axim Windows Mobile 5.0. The program didn't work for me so I attempted to uninstall it.

Using the standard uninstall procedure, I (thought I) uninstalled it. The only thing I uninstalled was the program name in the "uninstall" directory. The program remained in both the Start menu and in the Program folder.

Next I tried deleting the program through "File Explorer" by highlighting and deleting. The message that popped up read

"Cannot delete 'k_metronome': There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use."

I tried the uninstall from my desktop going through the uninstall process in the Control Panel. But the same thing happened: The program name was merely removed from the "uninstall" listing.

Someone suggested a program like MemMaid might help. After doing some basic cleaning, the unwanted program remains.

Short of a hard reboot, is there anything else that can be done to uninstall this program? It is apparently not causing any problems, but it does take up 112K worth of space.

Have you made sure the program wasn't running when you tried to uninstall or delete it? Sharing violations usually occur due to this sort of issue.

You can delete from Start menu by using File Explorer to go to My Device >Windows > Start menu> Programs and deleting. Did you try deleting the program after a soft reset?

I'm 90% sure the program was not running, unless it was improperly running in the background. I've been using Spb Pocket Plus Actions that have a "full close" function that is supposed to fully close programs. But that could have happened.

Check under \Windows\Startup to ensure it's not autostarting (if it is, delete the shortcut from there), soft reset, remove the program.

So the program is gone, only the start menu shortcut persisted?

Well, waddayaknow!:) Eliminating the item from the Start menu (or some other mysterious cause beyond my comprehension) miraculously allowed the program to clear out of the system.

Thank you all. Sure beats a hard reset!

Yaaaaaa!!!!:approve:
