Worried How can I open email msg's attached to an email msg?

While I am able to successfully open other email attachments for which I have the application associated with the file extension installed on my Axim x51v with WM5, I am unable to open up attached email messages (i.e., file extension of .msg). Does anyone know how if this is possible and how I would go about doing so? Thanks

I should add to clarify that when I attempt to open an attached email message, it throws an error box telling me that there is no application associated with the file with the file extension of .msg. and that I should save the file and then open the application first and attempt to open the saved file.

Is that a text file? If it is, I can show you how you can read/open it when you click on the attachment. If it is something else, let me know the application that created it.

Do you know how to edit your registry (w/ a registry editor)? I can give you the instructions.

No, it is a ".msg" file. It is created by Outlook.

By default, the Axim's Outlook do not recognize ".MSG" file. I have created a ".reg" file for you. It will create an entry to associate text messages with Pocket Outlook. When you click on a "msg" attachment, the attachment will open within Pocket Outlook.

You'll need to import the file into your Registry using a registry editor. Your Dell CD should have a trial version of Resco Explorer, otherwise download it & import the ".reg" file.

The filename is OutlookMsg.reg. It creates a subkey in the registry to associate ".msg" file (in text format) with Pocket Outlook.

By default, the desktop Outlook save .msg file in text format. Try it first.

I can't (don't have the option) attach the file here. How do I send the file to you?

MSG Files:

Priasoft has several MSG related products. http://www.priasoft.com

In particular, they have a MSG file parsing library that gives developers access to all the properties of a .msg file, without outlook.

They also have an export library that works with the MSG library for exporting msg files to other formats, like PDF, TIF, and HTML.

For PST files, they have a couple of command line tools that allow extraction of messages to MSG, again without requiring outlook, and it supports both ANSI and UNICODE pst files. There is also the reverse, a MSG to PST utility.

They also have a viewer product that looks very similar to outlook 2003 with regards to the User Interface. The viewer can view, search, print, and export msg files.

Of recent they released a MSG to XML converter tool. I think the like is http://www.priasoft.com/downloads/ms...allmsg2xml.exe

Lastly, they just release a free ViewOnly viewer here: http://www.priasoft.com/msgview.exe

Hi mlc5967,

I've email you the Registry file. After importing the file, you can open ".msg" attachment within Messaging/Pocket Outlook.

It will create a key to allow you to open ".MSG" attachment from within Messaging (Pocket Outlook).

In addition, when you save the ".MSG" attachment to SD/CF card, you can open it directly by clicking on it using your Axim's File Explorer. This is neat because by moving/saving your ".MSG" attachment to SD/CF card, you free up RAM storage.

Cheers,
l0l
