Hot fixes and Windows Mobile Software
With the recent spat of hot fixes from M$ (for other products) I couldn't help but wonder if any patches/hot fixes will ever be made available from M$ for our Mobile OS.
After all we do have anti-virus software for our mobile devices so isn't the possibility of causing a buffer-overrun or other critical flaw (say in IE) exist. Why should we be dependent on Dell for a hot fix that M$ releases? Shouldn't M$ have developed a better model for "their" product to ensure it runs satisfactory? (okay stop laughing) Seriously (and please don't give me the "Windows Mobile is different" speech), viruses and exploits exists for just about every OS type (M$ or otherwise) so how long do you think until one will occur for WM5/2003SE

there is no reason that a hotfix cant be made for a ppc, that doesnt require the entire ROM to be wiped, infact IIRC on the x51 its now stored in flash anyhow.
there is also no reason that updates couldnt be distrobuted through automatic update. so this leaves three reasons that i can think of, in assending order of plausability: compatability with hardware lazyness on the part of M$ hardware manufacturers wanting control to discontinue support for old devices at any time to force people to buy new devices

Okay, maybe I'm in the wrong thread for this question, but I'm stumped - and so is the tech support guy from Dell (very kind and helpful - we've been conversing for over 1.5 hours and I finally gave up secondary to fatigue).
Anyway, I get the following message each time I try to sync my axim to the files on my computer (notice I said "files" - not the contacts, etc., just the files that I used to have on my axim before I needed to hard reset the machine - which occurred because my screen "temporarily" failed [that has been resolved for now]) The error I get looks like this: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Buffer overrun detected! Program: C:\Program Flies\Microsoft ActiveSync\WCESMgr.exe A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated. Options: "OK" (yep, that's all) SO, any ideas because I'm not a programmer and, though I grasp the concept of runtime error (thanks to Google), I don't know what to do next! Thanks, acpharmd
