I just bought the axim x51v.. i installed opera and another program just fine.. I run a mac so i cant install any of the software on the computer.. i put those files on the sd card and just ran it from the axim to install.. Then i did a couple of applications that i downloaded.. and none of them worked.. they all said not a valid application.. so can not all programs be installed threw the axim, so you need a windows pc? if it is.. i will just have to install virtual pc.. But i cant understand why it would be like thart..

A lot of programs do run their install routines from the Desktop. I think there are small desktop utilities that can be used to extract a cab file from those desktop routines and then you can run the cab file on the PPC. However, I'm not sure if those utilities exist for Mac (although they would be most useful there).

Try a google for "mac pocket PC cab file extractor" or something like that.

 

also, a lot of software vendors will give you the choice of d/l ing either a .cab file or the whole install program.
