Playing music\movies directly from a network share?

I was wondering if there was a way to play mp3\wav files in media player from a share on the network without having to actually find it in file explorer, copy it to the pocket pc (x51v), and then play it. I have a similar dilemma with pictures (can't see thumbnails on shares). Can this be done with WM5? With extra software?

Welcome to Aximsite!

Total Commander (free) will help you map drives:

In case it doesn't work with WM5, you can try Resco Explorer.

It's the best way! Be sure the shared drive is connected to the WiFi router by wire, for he best results.

This does work great, but how do you get an entire folder to queue up to play? It seems like I can select a single song to play by double clicking it in Total Commander, but can't get a whole set to play

Try Highlight and press and hold. Then hit play. That might work.

What program are you using to play the files with? Dont open the files from total commander just use it to map the drive then open wmp or tcpmp or whatever media player you are using to play the file. If you made a folder shareable with multiple files then you should be able to create a playlist just like the files were on a storage card or bis. You will have to give wmp or tcpmp the path to the shared folder ie: go to open file in tcpmp and type "\\Computer name\My Music\folder name\

This looks interesting, but it's very old. There are reports that it doesn't work for WM2003SE so I doubt it would work for WM5. Have you tried this yourself?

BTW, welcome to Aximsite!
