Question Networking woes. I just don't get it.

Friends and otherwise ,
I am not at all new to computers (been involved since the trs-80 model I).
I am not at all new to windows (been doing it since Windows 3.1).

But I do not get the network stack in windows mobile.

I have searched high and low, but not found the info I needed (which is not to say it is not elswhere posted... just not found ).

I have:
Dell Axim x50v
1 gb sd ram
GlobalSat Bluetooth GPS
GlobalSat GPRS Compact-Flash Modem

My home network is wireless and works fine .
My Axim connects and works fine. I can get to the internet (over wifi) ...
The Axim wifi connects 'My Work network'
( I still do not get the rational surrounding 'Work' and 'Home' Network': any one have a good explanation?)

What is missing:
I want to have my modem hooked up and automatically dial if the wifi connection is not avalible.
What does happend is that if I set up the modem in my 'Work' network then PIE no longer uses the wifi. If I delete the modem setting then pie sees the wifi again.

If I set the modem up as 'My ISP' then I must constantly switch the setting in 'connections'.

This is worse than the network stack in windows 95..

So: if someone can please post or point me to a clear, rational, description of how the Microsoft Monkey's designed this and how us mere mortals can make this work: I would be very grateful.

Sounds like you got it right with the my isp method. You have to manually seclect the connection like you are. I don't know if some other software would make it automatic.

Your right about "Work", "home" and Flight Mode - they make no sence. BTW. flight mode keeps wifi off for use on planes...!? Work is for network with internet access and home is internet without network (ability to use network share drives) . MS decided that most people don't have networked computers at home so they provided a connection that does not use it. dumb. Oh yeah, and having to look at the modem parameters in the connection menus is most annoying.
I have issues

Thanks.

I kind of figured that.
Flight mode: "Bizzare"

I am hoping for a better answer...
Any magicians out there to make my network wishes come true?

I've set my Modem connection and WiFi connection to "Work", so if WiFi is not available the Browser or any other application that want to connect to WWW uses the Modem automaticly.

Oy Vey!
I wish I had a gig of ram in it...
I remeber how in the trs-80 we used to solder a second 16k chip (actually 8 on them) piggy back on the original 16k on the morhter board and just lift an address pin to make the system 32k...

yes: 1gb sd card. LOL!
