USB to ethernet connection.

some of you will have noticed that when you plug you x51v/wm5 device into a usb port an new network connection is created. owever this only works if activesync 4.0+ is installed.

put simply, is there a way to recreate this connection on a pc with no activesync? maybe i need to install some drivers? anything other than activesync really.

this way i could use terminal services without having AS installed on the remote comp. or browse my shared network folders.

I use a bluetooth dongle, it is easier to carry than a cable and it looks like a jump drive. XP has some dongle support. I know it has belkin. So I can plug the belkin dongle into any xp (sp2) PC and transfer files.
I have issues

On a machine with Activesync 4.x installed there is a directory containing the drivers for a WM5 Pocket PC, I don't know if they work without activesync installed but they are in

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers"

I would assume you can copy them to a floppy disk or something, plug your Axim into another computer and when it asks for drivers point it to the floppy. It may or may not do what you were wanting it to....

Hope this helps.

I've uninstalled ActiveSync 4.2. If i plug my Axim into a USB Port my PC recognizes it as a WindowsMobile device and creates an ethernet connection without ActiveSync. I think the uninstall procedure don't delete the drivers.

I do not believe the drivers are any good without activesync. You can try but I spent alot of time tring something similar, and they will just not work.

well the install/unistall trick seems acceptable. i really just want to be able to plug my pda in to a pc and NOT have activesync screwing me around. its not like i need to syncronize on EVERY pc i have.
thanks marcus.
