Yes, you can get rid of the shortcuts that you do not want. Again I strongly recommend using one of the alternate file explorers such as GSFinder or Total Commander (Both freeware) or Resco File Explorer ( a free trial is available on the dell cd) so that you can easily see the file extensions and the directory structure.
Removing a .lnk file will not remove the program and any .lnks and programs that came with the device will come back in their original location after a hard reset.
Also there are programs that let you use different icons instead of the standard ones. I use ilauncher (not free). Hope this helps.
