A12 and WiFi

I just recently upgraded to A12 and thankfully it went off without a hitch thanks to the posts in here I read before hand. Now that the upgrade is complete I have a couple of questions that hopefully someone in here will be able to answer:

First, I noticed that my Wi-Fi reception is not as strong as it was with A06. I have noticed at home and at work as well as the homes of friends I have visited prior to the A12 upgrade. It seems that for some reason that I cannot pull a signal unless very close to the wireless modem. Any tips/suggestions?

Second, and I am not so sure about this one, but on the "Today" screen I notice on the bottm the Odyessy Client icon (in black outline). I don't think it was there before. I never used Odyessy and I double-checked to make sure it wasn't activated.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

An outline oddysey icon means that it is resident, but is not associated with a network.

I have only used a12 , so I can't compare the two. However, I have 8 wireless networks configured to which I have to routinely connect. This does not include random public hotspots. Half of the networks are in residential areas with many competing signals. I find that I have to use odyssey to reliably stay on one network. I know it is a resource hog, but have not gotten around to playing with hitchhiker or another program, and it does seem to do the trick. You might try configuring odyssey and see if that helps your reception.

I'm sure that you have configured everything to go to the work network and have then set the work network to access the internet. I also assume that you have already disabled the power conservation features on the WLAN utility page.

when you are in the wireless utility, change the "power save mode" from "auto" to "disabled", soft reset. see if that fixes the issue.

I keep mine on auto, no problems here. However there are some who recommend switching it to disabled and it works for them.

I have the same problem since I switched to A12...sometimes cannot even see my IP address. I found that only soft-reset will cure the problem and I get a strong connection as I once had. As for the Odyssey, try disabling it in its options dialog menu and it will dissapear from the Today screen.

Good luck!

Yea, sorta noticed the same thing but I think its more the strengh of signal not being reported correctly than the actual signal being weaker. Before upgrade to A12 WiFi Companion reported 95-100 % signal strength when in same room as router. Now it reports 61% maximum. But range still seems the same. I can connect anywhere in my yard, just as before,
