Apart from installation problems, is ROM a12 a clear winner?
Are those of you who replaced ROM A06 by ROM A12 satisfied with the results? Is A12 definitely quicker and more responsive? I read quite a few messages about installation problems but much less about the practical effects of moving to A12.
Is A12 worth upgrading if the only thing I miss with my x51v is a better speed and less loading time of applications?

I've done the upgrade without any problems. The loading time is faster and the speed too.
Upgrade from A06 to A12 was a good choice for me.

When I upgraded the flash walked right into the device. I also upgraded the AS to the latest and greatest and the combination of the two solved every issue I had with the Axim. The WiFi seems faster, moving files via FTP is faster, copy files through Total Commander is faster....
I am happy with a12 so far. Fixed both of my major issues with a06:
-Would not turn on without a soft reset (even with the fake server trick).
-I was not getting notifications of any appointments at all (no sound, no display)
Can't really tell about memory usage or speed except that it turns on much quicker now that I'm not using the soft reset button as the power button.
The only major gripe I have is that applications installed to my CF card sometimes randomly disappear following a soft-reset. For that reason alone, I kind of wish I hadn't updated the ROM. Everything worked fine with A06.
I've witnessed a marked improvement going from A06 to A12. The X51v is snappier with regards to running porgrams and soft resets (I do this before using OCN5), and I seem to have a bit more program memory. And, my reminders are working again (at least for now). I have the same Activesync tweak on A12 as I did on A06, and did the registry tweak to replace the new battery icon with the clock.
However, I have discovered a new problem that did not exist with ROM A06.
The short version is, that the system hangs when a CF card is inserted and there are meeting reminders.
At first I thought it had something to do with the apps installed on the card, but after reading another post in Aximsite from a user that had exactly the same symptoms, I realized that the problem lies elsewhere, and that is with the interface between the Axim and the CF card.
It seems that while solving one issue, Dell and Microsoft have created another problem....
The thing is that for anyone like me, who uses the Axim constantly throughout the day, going from meeting to meeting, this problem is very problematic. This is because the system freezes, and no more appointment reminders pop up.
The existing solutions to the problem are:
a) Performing a SR everytime the system hangs (this is however a problem, if the system hangs often).
b) Turning on and off the system several times, and then pressing long the Power button, until a warning comes up (regarding losing all the unsaved data), cancelling the Power Off, and dismissing the meeting reminder popups.
c) Removing the CF card (this would mean reinstalling all apps that reside there to an SD card).
It's not a solution but maybe try installing all programs on the device itself and leaving the storage cards for data storage? If by doing that and everything works then it's a solution until dell comes up with solution. Try it on SD card?
I've never install programs on storage cards so I don't know.
I was about to reinstall everything to my SD card, even though it's a pain.
I'm hesitant regarding installing everything to MyDevice, since the benefit of having the apps on a card is that upon a HR, in many cases I can usually create shortcuts directly from the directory in the card, without reinstallin the apps.
Where do you get this download from? When I go through the download process on the DELL site for an X51v and WM5 I don't see it (I'm on A08 at the moment).

Time for my 2 cents..
I've been lurking in the sidelines reading and listening... finally got up the nerve to install A12... it went exactly as it was supposed to without a hitch...
It fixed all my problems - even some I didn't know I had...
Thank you to all who spent the time and had the patience to guide me/us through.
My X51v is running really well, very much on par with my X50v with WM2003SE, good battery life, fast, everything is running well. No complaints at all..
Thanks Dell..
