I have it set up in both Flexmail and built-in messaging and neither program can connect to the gmail server. Both of them worked previously, and then both mysteriously just stopped working. They both give similar errors.. when trying to connect, messaging 'times out' and Flexmail gives a transport error saying that the pop server couldn't be reached.
I know I have a connection to the internet because I can surf. I've tried to get mail through an activesync internet connection as well as a wifi, and neither works.
Has anyone else had a problem recently? Did google change some setting that I need to update? Like I said, both of these programs worked about a week ago. I have made a few changes since then, but I'm not sure exactly when gmail stopped working, so I can't really go back. I've double and triple checked all my settings, and they are right.. well, at least, they used to be right.
I had the same problem and it "fixed itself" after a few days.
I believe it has something to do with gmail settings.
Try going to gmail / settings / pop3 / reactivate pop3.
I have also had this problem. I happened once before the upgrade to a12 and it has happened twice since then. I have racked my brain to figure it out. At first I thought that it had some thing ti do with my gmail notifier loging in to gmail at the same time as i was on the ppc. I have since ruled this out. In any case, every time this has happened, the problem mysteriously went away after a day. I think the problem is with gmail. Every thing seems to be a ok on my ppc. I couldn't get into my account ANY way on the ppc each time this happened.
I think its gmail...this happens occasionally to me on my laptop checking POP3 with outlook...sometimes it just times out. I think the gmail pop3 servers either get overloaded or they take them down temporarily occasioanally for maintenance or something else...I dont really know...but the problem always goes away on its own after a day or so.
And you can still check email at gmail.com until fixed....
After A LOT of searching, I have finally solved this problem. I found the following instructions buried in a thread over at google:
Quote:
If you are receiving several prompts to enter your username and
password for POP access, please follow the steps below to resolve the
problem:
1. Disable all POP clients you're using to read Gmail messages. (If you
use one at work and one at home, please disable both.)
2. From the computer on which your POP logins are failing, visit http://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
3. Enter your Gmail username and password, and the letters in the
distorted picture.
4. Once you have successfully logged in, restart your mail client and
try to download your mail.
This should remove the captcha blocking your POP client.
also check the thunderbird password storage and see what it shows also
you must used your full email address.
I followed those instructions on my Axim, using Opera as my browser, and gmail began working again with my old settings.
-Secure Password Authentication must be "OFF" (unchecked)
-Under 'Advanced' the incoming port number is 995, and the outgoing is 587, and both require SSL
Hope this helps. I'm having no problems with my G-Mail.
I never changed any of my settings. Gmail simply stopped working. The trick I posted above fixed and got it to start working again.
I have no idea what a captcha is, but unlocking it restored pop functionality for gmail on my x51v.
*edit* Did a little research to figure out what a captcha is. It is actually sort of cool, if you're a nerd like me. Check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha
*edit*
I'm sorry Zaniax... I don't know what you have going on there.
In other news, I have just discovered that this hasn't completely fixed my gmail. It won't work while it is in the cradle and connecting through activesync. It did work with a wifi connection though.
