I currently have an x50v and love it. I keep reading about the WM5 upgrade (obviously not the direction I will be going) and the possible x51v upgrade.
Some keep giving the advice of contacting DELL and letting them upgrade you.
What's the deal?
If you really want wm5 and it's not working on your 50 they exchange it for a 51?
I have just about as much warranty as you could possibly get for your 50, so is this the route they will go in the event of a meltdown, and is it really better than the x50v?

Yes they exchanged my x50v with an x51v and with the a12 rom it is by far the best and fastest pda ive had

 

same here. x51v works great with wm5. they upgraded me too from x50v.

Got my x51v trade in the other day. Dell was very good about it. Just insist that your unit is basically useless to you and they will send you a new x51v. So far i like it better than the x50v, but it has done a few goofy things..

The thing I notice the most is that i DONT have to soft reset it all the time like I did my x50v. The x51v still hangs up once in a while (i havent tweaked it at all yet) but it doesnt start running sluggish like my x50v did. Plus You dont have to worry about organizing your memory as much since it runs from the Internal flash memory.

So can I like drop my x50v in a bucket of water (and cry like a school girl for about a second, then kick the bucket) and declare it useless and BAMB! Just like that a new x51v?
By some of the threads I've read, It seems that a great deal of people were happier w/ their x50v.
Any real reason? And, has some of the earlier hangups w/ the 51 been worked out by Dell or did someone just get smarter and do some tweaking?

I dont have any reason to use WM5 (yet), I have more reason to stay WM2k3.

Yes, you can make a case for getting anx51 for the x50. For me, I bought the latter with the promise that I could run the newer OS. For my business, it means not being one OS behind in terms of support. So given the promise, I opted to spend "more" for the OS and less for the hardware.


So at this time, even though there are still issues to be resolved, the fact that I have hardware that is matched to the OS, given my 3 yr warranty is not only what I paid for, but what I need.

It's not about today but more about the future.


Dell exchanged my x50 and I think given their adverts, it was justified.
