Looking for a PDF reader

Up until this point, I've been using Acrobat reader on my x51v. But I'm starting to get disheartened with how easily it crashes. I can be looking at a page, put the Axim on sleep for a couple seconds, and come back, and the file will be unreadible until I reload the program. This just won't do.

So, my question to you all. Does anyone have any alternate PDF readers for Windows mobile 5 that they'd suggest?

EDIT: I appologise for this being in the wrong section. I wasn't paying enough attention when I posted it.

I have found PocketXpdf to be terribly slow. And since the reflow systems on both Acrobat and PocketXpdf are unreliable and buggy its probably better to use the Repligo system (or at a pinch the Mobpocket reader - which I believe is now free).

Yes, Mobipocket is free but the Reader can't read PDF by itself and the Mobipocket Publisher's translation of PDF files is a little buggy, in my experience. Repligo currently isn't being developed by the developer, as they're focusing on Smartphone software, last I looked.

Outside of that and XPocketPDF, there's also ClearVue, but I personally found it horribly slow when even moving on the same page - as it had to redraw EVERYTHING.

Agreed. I have yet to find a pdf reader that is at least a little faster than Adobe Reader.

Sorry friend. There's simply no .pdf readers that work well. I know, I have tried them all. Clearview seems to be the only one that will read all of my .pdfs, but it is SLOW and cannot reflow. I'm holding out until adobe releases a new version of acrobat mobile.
A hint: If you load your .pdf in acrobat professional you can make it compatible with acrobat 4.0 and up. This sometimes makes them work better in adobe mobile because it was released around the same time as acrobat 5.0.

Repligo

Check out Repligo: it's a document converter that works really well to diplay pdf's. You just install the tool/converter on your desktop and the reader on your device. It's much more stable that Adobe reader 2.0 and takes up less storage space. I also use it to view powerpoint files on my x50v (w/no native powerpoint support).

Pdf

In my opinion ClearVue with their latest release works the best. ClearVue PDF 3 Pro is much faster than previous versions and no conversions.
Still not perfect - have to wait between screens but best there is still Adobe gets with the program.

I've had issues with ClearVue 3 - it's STILL slow, especially when moving on the same page - it's like it's redrawing everything in the document (all pages) instead of just the section I need, which slows things down horrendously. PocketXPDF's improved somewhat in speed with 0.4, and I've been using that along with Adobe to handle PDFs.

I have both RepliGo and the Adobe Reader. Between the two I get by.

I used Acrobat on my Axim, on my phone I use PocketXpdf and it works better than Acrobat on that device.

I have tried both xpdf and adobe, with the vga .mui. I often read long graphic intensive docs (+/- 70 pgs) at meetings that are being referenced in meeting situations. Reading each page each time you access that page is a real problem with xpdf.

Adobe is much faster and renders the page quite well (including drawings). but...

The axim goes to sleep, as I want it to becuase I need to conserve power while away from the mother ship. At that point, the whole ax freezes because adobe is on the sd card and it can't find itself (kind of like teenagers). soft reset the only solution. It sounds like putting it on the device may eliminate the soft reset, but the program still won't wake up. any solutions besides
  • carrying a battery pack
  • installing it on the device, and
  • continually tapping it so it stays awake??

I never found one, but certainly doesn't mean no one else has.

I have another question related to Acrobat Reader.

Is it possible to enable "Presentation mode" of Acrobat Reader on Axim X51v? When I try to do that, it says something like "please install VGA driver". Does there exists any workaround for that?

Thanks!!

I've been using Foxit Reader for Windows Mobile (Beta). It's fairly feature poor but runs well. Unfortunately, it does not appear that it will remain free.
