A hard reset basically resets your PDA back to the manufacturer's settings, you lose everything that was installed or saved to it and start back over with a clean Ax (OS included, of course)

Only in pre-WM5 (aka: WM2003 and 2003SE) machines - they kept everything in RAM, with the exception of anything that was held in a File Store or similar flash-based storage area. WM5 uses persistent memory by default, so you don't lose data that way.

Hard Reset is like formatting a hard drive on a PC. Soft Reset is like rebooting PC.

With WM5, if your battery dies or you take it out, you don't lose anything
