Data Back Up Recovery

My X50V with 2003 windows PPC just crapped out, I have backed up my dated every day using just the back up provided by the OS. If I purchase a new X51V with the 2005 Windows Mobile OS will I be able to recover my data to the new X51V?

This would seem fairly simple, but I have had one form of PDA or another for many years now and never been able to transfer my saved data from one PDA to another as I updated, usually as I was forced to by the PDA failing. I went from my Casio to an early X5 to a newer X5 to the current X50V and none of their backup files have been compatible.

Basically I am trying to figure out if I need to get another 2003 installed X50V to get my data or if I can upgrade to the new X51V and strill recover my data? Thank you.

I think you'll need to get another 2003 installed X50V. The OS installed Backup does not resotre across different ROM versions. I learned that the HARD way when upgrading to A12

Which data are you most concerned about? If it's Outlook data, you can easily sync your new X51 to Outlook but this will only be good if your desktop Outlook is up to date. If you have specific files stored in memory cards, you can access them in your new device. It's basically programs that cannot be transferred over and require reinstallation. Bur this may not be such a bad thing anyway since you will require the WM5 versions.

I updgraded my x51v from A06 to A12 and used Restore to recover the data across ROM versions. I got gobs of error messages (it even told me the Restore file was "broken"), but it worked. (To the best of my knowledge, no data was lost.)

There is always a way. Of course, sometimes date re-entry is faster. I've upgraded across a number of platforms and almost always found a way to migrate data.
