Keeping Email on server, WM5

Way back in the days of the older Pocket PCs/handheld PCs there was a setting on those pocket devices that allowed you to keep your email on the server, so you could retrieve later with your home computer.

I notice I don't have this function on my Axim X51.

Is there a way of retrieving your email from a POP account on your pocket PC, but still having it kept on your server so you can get the same email later from your home computer?

HOw to do that?

I believe there is a setting in 0utlook that allows you to keep a copy on the server.

I only need to keep it on the server until I can download with my home computer, hence it would be 'pocket outlook' where I would need that kind of setting. But I don't see any setting on my X51 ...

Ok, I found a workaround. Just keep the setting to Download Message Header only, and then bump up the amount of copy that it'll download by a bit.

The message header will download, along with a bit of the email itself. I can still read it, then when I get home and use my Outlook it downloads and will disappear next time I check my email on my pocket pC.

The alternate email programs also allow you to select that preference. I use flexmail and it works fine. I also used npopw (freeware) for a while and it, too, had that setting. npopw scatters files all over the place, otherwise, it's easy to use.

here is the process for outlook when you sync with your pda and want to keep the email on your computer's outlook.

In outlook go to tools>options>mail setup>email accts>view/change>next>change>more settings>advanced>check box to leave copy on server. This will leave a copy on your outlook so when you sync it will bring a copy to your pda and leave the copy on outlook. I use sbc-yahoo email acct where I have it set to leave a copy on the server so that I can view emai thru outlook or from another site when I am away from my computer.

I just got a new x51 and with build in wireless. I had one with out wireless and I was using a card for the wireless. My problem is now I get on the internet but I can't get on my email server with this machine wirelessly. It tells me :
Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then try to download messages again.
So I am connected. And I know how to configure my email. Did it before and now I can't. I have searched the forum but come up empty. Thanks for the help!

Sam

Perhaps check your settings on your pocket PC to make sure you're using POP instead of IMAP (unless you actually are using IMAP). I had the same error when I inadvertently put IMAP instead of POP under my Axim X51.

I am having the exact same problem. Prior to upgrading to ROM A12 if I checked my email with my POP3 server (always WIFI, I don't sync non-outlook email with ActiveSync) I had no issues. The system would leave a copy of the message on the server (as it SHOULD). Now (I believe the upgrade is related), when I check my email on my Axim the messages are pulled off the server and therefore I cannot access the emails via the web interface or download them on my home computer. There is no option to keep a copy of the messages on the server.

Windows Mobile 5 was not quite ready for primetime in my opinion...
