why/ why not should I upgrade my firmware from A06 to A12 on Axim X51v other than the part about possible bricking my handheld?

 

I am happy to report that I now have an Axim X51v A012 running WM5. The update went supurb. Noticable changes: other than the obvious changes that others have already outlined, my axim's problem with running slow seems to be fixed (its lightning fast: faster than my laptop, its probably nearing time to defrag)
The new battery meter is ubergroovy. The password entry screen does not run slow and freeze up.

Does anyone know if the .NET framework 2 is embedded in the A012 firmware like the .NET1 was in the A06

Is it true that I have to re-install all software after upgrading from A06 to A12. Backing up then restoring using Spb Back up and Sprite won't work? Can anyone confirm?

Hi,

Right after after the upgrade to A12, my Axim was working super fast. Short after that though, it got really slow, already on the password screen. Soft resetting does not solve the problem, and I would not like to reflash... Did anybody experience this issue before, and if so, how did you solve it?

The only thing I'm struggling with, is ozVGA. It does work, but some icons dissapear, so have to use qVGA for the moment.

I learned today that .NETframework 2 is going to be in the AKU 3 update for WM5 (meaning imbedded in ROM) so, no the framework is not included so far.
