Question Word Completion

Word Completion has been annoying me of late. I know how to turn it off but there are times when I like to use it.

What has annoyed me is it's word 'learning', I was writing something a few months ago and a couple of words were 'added' that I don't want popping up every time I tap the first two letters of the word.

My question is how do you get rid of the 'learned' words?

I'm running the A12 ROM and with my X5 and, if I remember correctly, the previous X51v ROM's all you had to do was soft reset and the 'learned' words would be gone. Now they stick around! Obviously someone wanted the 'learned' words to stick around, so the feature was added. I'll do anything short of a hard reset. There has got to be a file somewhere...

Anyone have any ideas?

I find it annoying that it seems to learn from my atroshus speling

I have used Word Completion Dictionary Editor and it seems to work OK for removing items, but does nothing to stop the PDA learning from my input.

The learned words are stored in the file \Windows\dyncompdict.dat, in a binary format. You can delete this file manually, but if you only want certain words deleted there is no easy way to do it. You could use a hex editor to edit out the entries you don't want. The file format is pretty straightforward, and I recall it being documented in a post somewhere on Aximsite (do a search on dyncompdict.dat).

Thanks for the info. I will now delete this file to start from scratch. I don't mind it learning words, it just annoys me that instead of suggesting more common words it comes up with the name of a product I reviewed every time I start with a certain letter.

sar840t2, It's even more funny when it learns your typos and when you type the first two letters of the word as capitals.

Yes, I agree. I believe there should be a selectable option in the input settings applet for enabling and disabling the adding of custom words. It has become an annoyance to myself having to go in and manually delete words that shouldn't have been added in the first place...with regards especially to typos! What's that all about? Nevertheless, Microsoft failed to render us free of such a devastation. I wonder if 'maybe' this problem will be addressed in the upcoming mobile OS...
