Aximsitex50icon Random White Screen Of Death (WSOD)

Randomly when I put my x51v in the cradle it will white screen. I haven't been able to find anything that I can change in configuration etc that would stop this from happening. I'm reasonably sure it's software related not hardware as I've seen this happen with two other Axim's. The software on my device is vanilla as supplied by Dell and I'm running Activsync 4.2 .

I've done a search on the web and found discussions around low memory but I've made sure that the memory isn't low and it still happens.

Does anyone have a solution to this or any ideas on how to minimise this from happening?

I have always gotten the white screen if I put my Axim in the cradle if the screen is turned off with Wifi left on. Has happened consistently with 2 Axims, A12 and A06 ROM. It's been discussed here quite a bit.

Thanks.. I'll try keeping the wifi off to see if it helps. I've just updated the wifi driver to the latest that has just been released by dell wonder if it may fix the issue....

Really odd, I just did that today for the first time and I got one too.

Well its taken a few months but now I know the cause. After many Axim and cradle replacements, checking firewall settings, etc, etc, etc, it turns out that there is an issue when wm5 is connected to a PC via a port replicator or USB hub.

Plugging the PDA directly into the PC instead of using a USB hub or replicator stops the WSOD. The Microsoft web page explains….

--
Hubs & Docking Stations
USB hubs and laptop docking stations have not exhibited consistent stability with Windows Mobile powered devices and ActiveSync.

Please connect the device directly to the PC USB ports if you experience connection drops or inability to connect through a USB hub or docking station.
--

The Microsoft web page is located at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx . Hopefully this will be fixed in wm6.

There isn't much that you can do about these kinds of problems, but before you put your Axim in it's cradle, check to see if there are unecessary programs running in the background. Terminate them before docking and this will not occur as often as before.

Not so, Chris9. I get the WSOD randomly and never have used a port replicator or hub with my Axim.

The new battery pack pro program has a setting in which it can terminate running programs after a certain amount of time. Maybe give that a try. Be careful though, you wouldn't want to have something such as a word doc close without saving. Battery Pack Pro can be found here http://www.omegaone.com/

I have the same problem you do and I just turn the wifi off. That's all I can do.
