hi all!
I've got a HP iPAQ hx2795, and it came preinstalled with WM 5 (begining to wonder whether I should have got one with 2003). The wireless network at uni requires a VPN connection. So i set this up in connection settings. I connect to the network fine but the internet still doesn't work. I've set the proxy settings as well but no joy! I've been googling abit and came across another university that had a guide to set up a VPN, so i followed the instructions (substituting the relevant information) and the final step is tap the wireless icon and a bubble will appear with the signal strenght and other information. Tap connect via VPN in this bubble! That has never come up! Was just wondering whether anyone else tried using a VPN on WM 5 or knows how to? Many thanks, Jonny

Could you please post a link to the instructions you are using? I am having similar issues, and if i could try these instructions maybe we could work something out?

First you need to know what the VPN Connector is at the other end. The build in VPN software does not work with most VPN connectors. Next check out the thread Did ANYONE get Cisco VPN to work with WM5 in "Axmsite>Dell Axim Hardware Forums > X50 / X51 Forums. In that thread you will find some set up info for some different VPN programs. You will find these programs are not cheap $50 - $90. Try the trial versions first. Some work better then others for different VPN connectors. I like both NCP Secure and Bluefire. Both still have a bug with the Dell X51V.

Thanks for the advice on the other VPN software, but I managed to sort it out!
The link I mentioned is http://kb.iu.edu/data/atcn.html.... The way I got it to work was actually suprisingly simple (and a bit stupid on my part!) In Start -> Settings -> Connections (Tab) -> Connections -> Advanced (Tab) -> Exceptions Once in there I put in the local addresses for the network in my case *.ncl.ac.uk/* The stupid part was that to connect to the VPN I had to go to a site that was on the network e.g. cs.ncl.ac.uk So as i went there the VPN connected and I could then go to any other site on the internet e.g. Google and it would work! Hope this helps... Jonny
