That is really odd, I thought Messenger was built-in to all WM5 devices. Windows Live Mobile is out on beta and works great (way better than the built-in version). You can download the Windows Live Mobile CAB file here (copy it to your device or storage card, run, and you're good to go).
I'm not sure if you can just unzip this and put it in your Windows folder and it will work, but I've attached the MSN Messenger program file that comes built-in with Windows Mobile 5 if you choose not to go the Windows Live route.
Thanks..!! I don't know why Orange took out MSN from the SPV M3100. I'll try out the Microsoft Live MObile. Thanks a lot.
EDIT: Live Mobile seems to be very slow on my SPV M3100. Can't run MSN Messenger by putting unzipping the attachment and putting it into the Windows folder.
EDIT2: It doesn't seem that slow anymore. It's just slow when it's downloading the contact list. It's very nice though, the features. Any idea when it's coming out as an official update?

Ya, when I first installed it I thought that it was brutally slow. However, after the initial synchronization, it works just fine. One thing, because it syncs the contacts, etc., I did accidentally delete all my MSN contacts. So, you might want to be sure to do a backup of those from a PC.
Ya the contact list integration is one of those good/bad scenarios. I wish you could disable the option, but once you get it working it's pretty cool. One thing tho, I'm not letting anyone else use Windows Live Mobile on my Axim (now that could really screw your contacts).
I totally agree. I love the interface and everything, the features is fantastic but the integration is killing me. It's messing up my contact list and my address book.
Is there a windows messenger CAB file somewhere? I accidentally deleted mine on X5 running on WM2003. All I can find on google is the upgrade. Thanks.
It's not possible to delete Messenger in WM2003 since it is in the ROM. Perhaps you just deleted the shortcut. Search in your Windows folder for a file called instmsgr.exe. Tap and hold on it to copy, then tap and hold to paste into your Start Menu\Programs folder. A hard reset should also restore it but you will lose data, settings and user- installed programs.

I followed your instructions and found the instmsgr.exe file, and copied it to windows/start menu/programs. But when i click on it, it doesn't do anything. When I deleted it, I went to Settings/system/Remove Programs, and removed it there. I preferred not to do a hard reset so as not to delete all our data. Is there another way? Thanks.
